I would send this as a suggestion to the team. Posting something in the forums isn't a guarantee that they will see it. This would be a neat feature if it is at all possible.

I had the same thing happen, Jeri.   I would have loved to have amended my order, esp. since it wasn't like it got accepted and shipped immediately.

I wonder if the logistics of this are too much.  I know that I once ordered from a website of some kind...it was a big one, I think it was Amazon.  I ordered something and then a couple hours later thought of something else I wanted to add to my order so I emailed them to ask if it was possible to add to it.  They responded that it wasn't.  I can't remember if it was explained why, but if Amazon can't do it, I can't imagine PBS could either.

I completely understand, I was just checking smiley

Lisa, that is my worry as well, that it may just not be possible for billing reasons or something. Still, it never hurts to ask!

Jeri, please let us know if you get any kind of answer from the team about this.

I'm surprised that Amazon wouldn't let you do that.  I've been able to add things much later to existing orders.  Maybe you were trying it with something shipped from Amazon "Marketplace," not from them directly?  For things they ship, you can usually add to orders up until they change the order status to "shipped."

I'm also eager to hear what the team's response is to this request.  Please do let us know what you find out!

My experience with Amazon is different. There's always the option to cancel an item before it has shipped, but I've never been able to add an item -- regardless of whether the order is directly from Amazon or from the marketplace.

ETA: Well, it is possible to add to or combine orders on Amazon EXCEPT in the following cases:

  • Orders where items have already entered the shipping process
  • Orders to be sent via free Super Saver Shipping
  • Orders for gift cards
  • Orders paid for in total by gift cards
  • Replacement orders generated by our customer service department
  • Orders for cell phone products and services
  • Orders placed using a corporate account
  • Orders placed with Amazon Merchants
  • Gold Box orders
  • Orders containing items not yet released
  • Orders paid for with different currencies
  • Orders to which promotional funds have been applied

IIRC- there's a time limit on the including of orders...and they have a choice about shipping together or as it's available.  With the 3rd party sellers I think it's 30 min. to cancel.  With Amazon itself I think it's an hour and a half or before the order is "shipped".  I would say 2 hours would be too long.

Ruth (who orders so frequently from Amazon the UPS guy comes here even when I don't have a package in his truck because he's so used to coming here!)

PBS is very accomodating to us members.  I really appreciate that.  I'm not so lucky with other sites.
