So, I bought a copy of the book in the UK, and when I posted it, the ISBN came up empty. So, I did the custom entry, but it hasn't been sent to ANY of the 103 people who are in line to get this book. Is there anything I can do to get it into the queue so that they can order it?

You can tag the listing for the ISBN that has wishers with something like "see also ISBN 9788888888888".  And you can post it in the monthly thread in the Book Bazaar discussion forum for alternate versions of wishlisted books.  Discussion forums can be found on the Community menu.

If the server recognized your listing as being the same as the wishlisted book, then it sent e-mail out to the wishers that a book "similar to" one they were wishing for had been listed, with a link to your listing.

You could post the book as one without an ISBN.

Robin, many members report success with Patty's suggestion (tag the wishlist version with your ISBN).  But also, don't give up hope on the UK ISBN.  Run more searches on that number, the UK ISBN's are sometimes pulled into the PBS system.  If yours does, then you could cancel the 'short' and again tag the wishlist (hopefully this would also trigger the 'similar' e-mail and 'other versions' features).  I've seen wishlists where members have both the us and uk versions of a popular upcoming release...it could happen!

Just clarifying, Robin, if this is Grave Secret we're talking about, the other members won't be notified because it has been posted as a non-ISBN item.  Those "a book like the one you wished for has been posted" emails only go out for books with ISBNs.

You might re-try the ISBN search -- sometimes, after an ISBN search comes up empty, the system will try to get the data from elsewhere and add it to our database, so it may have appeared.

Good luck ;-)

I guess it depends on what was meant by a "custom entry."  If you posted it using the option for posting a book without an ISBN, then no e-mail went out about a "similar" book, because non-ISBNs aren't linked by the server to other books.  But if you entered the ISBN on the Post Books page, and then entered all the info, it might be linked, and the e-mail might have gone out.

If you haven't yet entered the ISBN and entered the info on the Post Books page, it might be better to continue to search here for the ISBN until the server goes out and imports the info itself.  But if you already entered the info for the ISBN listing on the Post Books page, then the server won't look for the info on that book, because your ISBN listing already exists.

I'm not sure I'm making sense, but it's all clear somewhere in the ether.

Patty, it would appear that the OP posted the book with a short ISBN.  And I agree with Elizabeth, keep trying to search the ISBN it could be pulled into the system yet.  In which case the 'similar' links and such are possible.

I used the ISBN on the book. The system prompted me to fill out the information myself. I'm not sure where the gap is, but c'est la vie, eh? :-)
