I made it most of the way through, but I felt that I was trudging, at times. He's a writer that holds me (ever since "The Emerging Republican Majority", written (gasp!) 40 years ago (he's 72 now). At times, it's like he's writing about a political campaign, since he can't stop dividing and subdividing social and geographical groups, he's obviously frustrated by the lack of data compared to what he crunched back in the Nixon days. It was a fascinating time, and probably the best historical information on the time leading up to the war that I have read.
