Hey Sci Fi fans!

Was just wondering if anybody has recently read 1984 by George Orwell?  I liked the concept, but the overall message and story didn't connect for me.  If you really loved it maybe you could provide some insight that I'm missing.  Happy New Year!

Anybody want to share their thoughts?  I just like hearing other opinions.

I read it in the early sixties, so it was still supposed to be somewhat prophetic. Obviously, in retrospect, we haven't moved as quickly in that direction as Orwell predicted. Nevertheless, there have been insidious assaults on our privacy in this new century. And certainly the rotating cast of enemies has been borne out. We are beginning to see the government's opiates for the proletariat masses. Orwell was a Socialist; I'm a Libertarian - but on some of the things he feared from big government, we're in agreement.

Thanks Bob!

Yea, it is interesting that this book was predicting a future with government control slapped on virtually every aspect of life.  Watching politicians regulate soft drink size does make me think of 1984.

Let me ask this question:

Do you believe that "the system" will overpower you no matter how you resist?
