We will use this thread to discuss possible books to be used for any of the categories.

I will also post the instruction here in this thread on how to keep up with the Points Bonus Categories.

When we actually start the challenge in January, I will start a new thread where we will discuss our actual books that we have read.  This way, it won't get confusing when we go to add our points for the different bonus categories.

Feel free to post any questions about books, authors, etc.

Peace to all who enter.

If anyone is interested in posting their totals to a spreadsheet that I created, here is the form to do so.

There is a place to post number of reviews, WL books posted, TBR books mailed, and number of pages.

You can post as often as you would like, doesn't have to be weekly.  Also, it is not necessary to do so.

Okay, first question here:) I have never participated in any of these but it looks interesting. But I am not exactly sure how it goes. I pick 14 categories and do them throughout the year? And I post on the other thread with my choices? Then as I finish the categories I post on my post? Sorry but this is my first time and I would love to join:)

Charity - here is the link for this year's challenge:  2010 Christian Fiction Challenge - LISTS ONLY!!

You can copy and paste the categories to your own post and then fill in what you have read.  I haven't looked at this in a little while so everyone may have done theirs a little different but you will get the basic idea.

Everyone had thought that it would be easier and neater to keep discussions in a separate thread so that we could follow it better.

fantastic Fiction is also a good website for finding books by author name or genre. :-)

I was just listing my TBR and the oldest ones on there weren't the ones that I thought would be.  I'm going to wait until last of December to actually list but based on what is showing up, I don' t think that they will change much.

yay i think i'm going to do this. although i'm laughing at the 1st category of Read More book in 2011 than you did in 2010. I'm almost at 600 books for 2010 so i KNOW for a fact that that will not be happening next year!

Cynthia, for the Read More Books in 2011 category, do you mean read more CF books or just read more total books?

I have no idea how many books I read in 2010 so I am taking that first category to mean "more books for this challenge than I read for the 2010 challenge."  After all it's my own personal challenge, right?

Good morning everyone!

All of the categories will pertain to only Christian books - no other genres.

I was looking back at my list to see what I had read and was surprised that I hadn't read as many CF as I thought that I had.

Yes, Lisa, it is each person's own personal challenge.

On the points category for the WL books, someone had remarked in a swap a while back that the Christian WL books didn't seem to move very fast and that has stuck in my head for whatever reason.  That's why I decided to add that.

I think that's a great idea about the WL books, Cynthia. Does it count if you send a WL book to someone in a swap?  I guess not, since you said "posted to the system".  Maybe we could count it only if the person had it on their WL before the swap started?  That still accomplishes the goal of moving the WL lines.  Also, do we only count WL books that we READ and post to the system?  I snag a bunch from FOL that I post but don't read.  Do those count?   I'm just full of questions this morning!

I'm sure that everyone has some of the same questions.  I'm sure that there are probably a good many things that I didn't think through very good.

Wish List books:   No, you don't have to have read them.  I come across them and have no intention of reading but post through FIFO.

I had thought about WL books in the swap and wasn't going to count those but if everyone would like to we can.  If we do, I will probably change the points a bit.

I did add two more categories to the bottom of the list to make 20 if you want to check them out.

I think swap WL books should only count if the recipient already had it on their WL before the swap started.  But that's just my opinion.

I like the two new categories.  I was thinking about Christy award winners this morning!

Will reading Christian YA count for any of the categories?

I really like the categories this year.  Especially the one about the 10 books listed the longest on your TBR.  Can the books read for these 10 also be used in other categories?

I don't have a problem with using YA for the categories.  I think that I have a few of Ted Dekker's YA and then one other book.

As far as I'm concerned, you can use the TBR books for the categories.  Looking at mine, I'm not sure that they would work for some of them but that would all depend on your list.

I really like the categories again this year!  B/c I am such a slow reader I don't hold a torch to you guys when it comes to points & honestly I can see me keeping up w/ points for a few months but I'll probably fizzle out b/c I'll forget.  My goal is to read more CF than I did this year.  I stil have a LOT of books in my house that aren't CF but I want to read so knowing that ahead of time, I just want to do better than this year.  I like how the categories are going to open me up to a lot of new authors/ books...I'm sure I'll be asking for suggestions a lot! :)

Shayla, I'm right there with you on the points.  I'll start good and then forget.  I was trying this year to keep track of the number of books I read and it just got to be one more task and I decided it wasn't worth it.  Not sure if the prizes are all the points categories combined or if you can just do one of the categories.  The one I might try to do (points or no points) is read the 10 books that have been on my TBR the longest.  It will just feel good to get them moved off.

Lisa,

The only way I know how many books I read was b/c I have a spot in the 2010 Reading Challenge under the game forum...it isn't a game it's just a place to record all the books you've read.  I did keep up w/ that but I didn't read as much this year...just too busy!

Maybe instead of doing the points for a year, I shorten the time period.  Quarterly or two months at a time maybe.

I do the same thing about putting down what I read.  I have a place on my bulletin board to track them but I think it would work even better, if I would just use the Books I've Read section.  That way it would even have a date.

I'm sure that I'll forget page counts but I think to make it easier on everybody to count, we'll just use the number that PBS shows.  I know they aren't always accurate but it would be one less thing to have to remember to write down.

Whatever you want to do is great Cynthia.  The points piece and the prize isn't a real big draw for me either way.

I'm planning to use the new Book List feature to keep track of what I read next year.  I'm going to make one list for what I want to read for the HF Challenge, one for the CF Challenge and one for what I've read.  That seems like an easy way for me to keep it organized.

I'm also setting aside some time while I'm off for the holidays to get my PBS TBR to be my real TBR.  I think I am just going to wipe out everything that is there now and use the new PBS iPhone app to scan the ISBN's and add them all back.

It's actually a few months old.  Go up to the top of the page and click on What's New.  All the details are there.  Pretty nifty way to keep up with lists of things, since there is no limit to the number of lists you can make and how many things can go on a list.

I see my "almost neighbor" (20 minutes from me) and buddy Stephanie P. (mybabyblessings) joined us! As almost neighbors, we can have our own book swap/play date for our girls.
