Does that mean no challenge this year?  Man, I still have a ton of books left over to read from last year.

I would definitely be up for a challenge, though I don't have a clear idea right now.  The 2010 one got me to read some of the new authors and series on my TBR sooner than I would have otherwise.  I think even if no one else wants to do one, I'm going to come up with some kind of challenege for myself, since I like keeping lists- it's a sickness :)

I'm definitely up for a challenge. No one had posted though so I deleted my original post. I just didn't seem to get any interest. Any ideas? I'll definitely participate in a challenge, and do whatever needs to be done. :)

I'm still considering what I want to do.  I definitely want to include books I've had sitting around since I joined PBS 2 years ago and haven't read.  I didn't do the category one in 2009, and I may do something more like that though I'm still working out details... I'm such a last minute decider.

I would love to do a category one. i started that one in '09, and never finished.

A category one sounds like fun. I will toss out some suggestions

  1. Vampires
  2. Shifters
  3. Witches
  4. YA
  5. New release
  6. Ghost
  7. Finish a series that you have started
  8. New to me author
  9. Favorite author
  10. Book that has been sitting on you TBR for over a year
  11. Book one a series
  12. Paranormal Romance
  13. Urban Fantasy

What do you think?

I'd like to try this challenge as well.    I haven't done this before, so I don't know the previous history,  but how about also adding catagories of nonfiction, graphic novels, Demons/Angels, and geographic catagories such as books set in Canada or Chicago or Colorado?

Another excuse to read more books!  Yeah!

I was thinking about adding demons/angels category. let's see what I come up with...

Things that Go Bump:

  1. Vampires
  2. Werewolves
  3. Other Shifters (maybe split these up?)
  4. Witches
  5. Demons/Angels
  6. Ghost
  7. Time Travel
  8. Psychics
  9. Mermaids (& other sea creatures)
  10. Young Adult

(any good titles?)

  1. New release
  2. Finish a series that you have started (maybe with 3 or less books to go? because what if someone has started LKH? LOL)
  3. New to me author
  4. Favorite author
  5. Book that has been sitting on you TBR for over a year
  6. Book one in a series
  7. Non-fiction that relates to the paranormal genre
  8. PEARL Winner

Sub Genres

  1. Paranormal Romance
  2. Urban Fantasy
  3. Fantasy Romance (? how do we feel about that?)
  4. Graphic Novel

Maybe if we get 10+ categories per each of the 3 categories i've divided it up into, we go do like, "Beginner, read 1 from each of the following" "Intermediate, read 2 from each of the following" "Expert, read 3 from each of the following," "Professional, read 4 or more from each of the following"...? at that point, if you read 4, of each, it's getting harder...we could make it so they can't overlap if we keep the categories to a little less than maybe what they've had before? idk, just throwing out ideas :)

I like this idea.  For subgenres, you could add steampunk and mystery.

I also think that YA should be a subgenre.  I think there should be a way to work around a catagory that is impossible for the reader  Maybe an extra credit challenge.  For example, I don't have any TBR books that are a year old.  Unread books are like uneaten chocolates.  Neither last very long around me.    This looks like it's going to be fun.

Looks like this is all over the place an maybe a can add some order. Would folks like me to create an official 2011 reading challenge topic maybe I will do 10 categories and 2 bonus. I was thinking if you 1 book you get in a catogory you get a bronze star,   2 books silver star and 3 books gold star. I can do one topic describring the challenge and then one for list. What do you think or does no one want to be bothered. I am fine either way. We could post this in a couple of the paranormal swaps to make folks more aware.

Alice - I think that is a great idea -- we usually have one post for lists and one for discussions.

I liked last year's 10 new series, 10 finished series, except that I had lots of books that I started mid-series, so I went on PBS and ordered the first book to complete the "new" catagory.  Now I have lots of books that I need to complete the "finished".

I would really like to read these to get them out from under my bed; there is no more room under there.  Plus I need to move this year and my husband isn't too happy about lugging them around with me.

What ever you choose though, we must have a dragon catagory!
