Thanks for the info ladies. |

I have saved a space on the list thread. I don't know how far I will get, and certainly will not be able to compete with you guys, but I am going to see what I can get done. A year is a long time. |
Alice, thank you for putting this together! It sounds wonderful, and this coming year is my year to REALLY and HONESTLY whittle down my TBR pile. I talk about that a lot, but.... Heading over to the other thread to mark my place. Is it just me, or is planning the list half the fun? |
Planning the list is the mostest fun, second only to reading! :) |
I don't plan it out as I read a book (usually for a swap I figure what category to put it in) Alice |

Same here. I'm just making a list of the historical mysteries I have on my bookshelf. Like someone else here, I really need to cut down on my TBR! And reading historical mysteries is a good start!

I love mix of a good mystery and historical information. Right now I am reading Hanging Mary by Susan Higginbottom. It is HF but very interesting bit of history around end of Civil War. Alice |

I'm making a semi list too and having fun doing it. |
So many books not enough time to read them all:) |
Was there a Historical Fiction challenge? I thought I saw that somewhere but I am not sure where to find it, and I tried searching, but I'm not sure what it's called. I am starting to read alot more HF and would love to join a HF challenge. ETA - I think I just found the discussion thread I was looking for. Carolyn will be posting a Historical Fiction challenge in the near future. went a little crazy ordering some Historical mysteries during all these sales.!! |
I have been gathering quite a few BC mysteries I can share as the year goes on if anyone needs some. |
So what are people thinking of for pick their own category? I am thinking of male main character (I read a lot of books with women as the main character), books set in Italy, books set in the middle ages 400 AD- 1400 AD. |
Alice, I like the idea of a book set in the Middle Ages. I haven't made up my mind yet on the bonus category. |
I just finished a couple with male MCs. That might be a good one because as you say it's not that easy to find one that isn't a thriller. |
I have books that would fit in both of them so I will have to decide in the new year. maybe I will make two pick you your own categories:) |
Here is a list of historical mysteries to help anyone that needs suggestions

So I went to the historical mystery list bad idea. Put a bunch on my WL and ordered a bunch of books too. I added more series to the list as well |
I'm thinking about a book that has real people in the story--either the MC was a real person, or the MC interacts with real people, my "Name Dropper" category. Also, the MC is a lawyer, magistrate, law clerk, etc. Last Edited on: 12/10/16 1:56 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I have opened a new Mystey Swap This swap will help those participating in mystery challenges fill in the blanks with their challenges. You do not need to participate in any challenge to take play in this swap. |

Today is the day ready set go!! |
A Royal Murder / Elliot Roosevelt (Eleanor Roosevelt) It's taking place before thee US is actively involved in WWII, involves the British Royals in the Bahamas. |

Question does a book started last week 2016 but finished today 2017 qualify? |
I always allowed that when I ran this challenge, Janice, so I would imagine that Alice will follow suit. |
