I got this e-mail from Susan Andersen today. Disappointing to say the least.

Ava's Story

I’ve received a ton of email from readers wanting to know when Ava’s story—the final episode in the Sisterhood Diaries Trilogy—will be out. I’ve put off responding because I quite honestly didn’t know how to say this:

There isn’t going to be a third book. After Poppy’s story the powers that be at HQN felt the series had run its course and didn’t believe it required the third book. Less than diplomatically my reaction was and is, “Are you bleeping nuts? You can’t just drop the third story in a trilogy—readers are going to feel betrayed!” But they were adamant about discontinuing it, so I gave them a proposal for Burning Up, a stand alone book. And that’s been going great. It’s about a big, sexy arson specialist turned small town fire chief and the video queen who comes home to the town that all but ran her out on a rail—and the sparks that ensue from the moment she hits the county line. It's rocking and I love it.

But I also yearn to tie up the Sisterhood Diaries saga. Ava deserves her day in the sun and I very much want to give it to her. If you, too, feel there will be a chunk missing from this series, please feel free to share any thoughts or comments you might have on the subject with my editor, who can be reached at avastory@susanandersen.com.

In the meantime I’m sorry to have left you hanging. I really, truly hope that I can turn this around and give you the final sister in the Sisterhood’s story.

All the best,
~ Susan

That's so weird.  Publishers are starting to get nitpicky about series books all of a sudden?  Since when?

Maybe they didn't sell well. If they have a contract with her they might want another book from her instead in hopes of it sellign better. I haven't read anything by Susan Andersen to offer an opinion. It was just a suggestion.

This is just weird...this is what her website says :: Bending the Rules debuts on Pubishers Weekly at #12 and spends another week on the The New York Times and USAToday bestseller lists. It debuted on The New York Times at #14.

You would think that HQN would let the third story be written and published....

I always thought publishers liked series books because if you buy one or two of a series, you're more likely to buy the rest.  I know if I start a trilogy, I want to read all 3 books unless the first one is really bad.

I'm the same way, Sarah.

wow another reason to wait til they're all out. She's not a fave author of mine and Id on't have the ot her books-or heck maybe I have the first one?- can't keep track of everything! but I hate it when they do stuff like this. They did it for that historical series - deadly something or other-I have 6 or 7 of those but haven't started them and hate to since it's left hanging. Elizabeth Lowell never got to write Utah's story and darn it it was hinted at strongly  in Nevada's book :-( big sulk...there was an article 'bout this in RT one month but can't remember which ones they were talking about. just leaves everything unfinished

I'm disappointed.  I liked Bending the Rules and it sets up Ava's story, so I was looking forward to the last book in the trilogy.

Seems strange that they would dump one book in a trilogy...the second one seemed to do just fine, so why not just finish the series?
