Since joining PBS, I have received 3 books in a 5 3/4" by 8 1/2" size hardcover.  I LOVE them and would like to buy some of my favorite books in this binding.  Only I don't know how .....

I took the UPC and ISBN nos from the back of two of my smaller hc books and looked them up on Amazon.  Even though all of the numbers matched, the listings both showed the product dimensions to be the larger size of hc.  Does anyone know how I can be sure to get the size I'm looking for?

These are probably book club editions. I believe these tend to run smaller, but have the same ISBN.

They don't have anything on them that clearly states they are BCEs, but after doing some research, I am pretty sure you are right.  Thanks!

One way to tell if they are BCE, on the back cover (on the dustjacket) in the bottom right corner, there's a box with a series of numbers--different from the ISBN.  I get all my series books from Doubleday (the Nora Trilogies, Debbie Macomber Cedar Cove series--anything I consider a "keeper"--the ones that are usually released in paperback only) and they all have that on the back cover.

I am going to be posting a bunch of book club editions soon. I just have to figure out what box they are in. I too like the size as it's a lot more uniform than the publishers hardcover editions. They line up well on the bookshelf!

They might not be book club editions... I have several I have bought from B&N or BAM that are that size.  My latest one is Charlaine Harris "An Ice Cold Grave"(weight only 12 oz and 8.4 x 5.5 x 1.1 inches!) .  Also the Undead series by MJD are the same, it is a trend I believe hopefully one that will catch on.  I am not a huge hard back fan but I really do love them this size and would probably switch to all hardbacks if they were more available.

Yep, these have the box with the numbers on the back cover.  Which makes me wonder about some books I've seen listed here that look like the same book, but one has a 5-digit ISBN and the other will have a regular ISBN.  Maybe these are BCEs?

Anyway, I've always gone the pb route myself, so I'm a total newbie when it comes to hc books.  I was really getting frustrated about not being able to find what I wanted, and now I know where to look.  Thanks a bunch for the help, ladies!
