I just realized the $.50 transaction fee is back on Paperbackswap even if I have Gold Key membership.  I know is was once free with Gold Key.  When did this change?   Did anything else change?  Sorry if this has already been posted about.

Also, if I have $0 in the money part of my account, does that mean I'm not getting wishes granted or moving up the wishlist? (Though really, the money part of PBS has nothing to do with wishes being granted?  It's more for shipping.)

The transaction fee for Paypal was never associated with Gold Key.  You might be thinking of the once a month, free printed postage fee that comes with Gold Key.  From the January 2014 Newsletter:

Dear Librarian - I just went to buy some PBS Money to send a book with Printable Postage, and I was surprised to see a 50 cent Kiosk Transaction Fee listed in the cart before I checked out. You're already charging a fee for printing postage; why 50 more cents on top of that?  I like using PBS Printable Postage to mail from home!  Has this fee always been there? -- Confused in Colesville

Dear Coco,

The fee was just re-introduced a week ago.  We had eliminated it for a couple of years, but we had to bring it back, unfortunately. We are charged pretty significant fees by PayPal - PayPal handles all of our Kiosk transactions (credit/debit card payments as well as PayPal accounts).  Providing the Kiosk has been costing us so much in fees that something needed to be done.

The good news is that the fee is a FLAT fee - so it doesn't matter how much is in your Cart at checkout, the fee will always be 50 cents. For members who use Printable Postage or PBS Delivery Confirmation, that means it makes much more sense to buy PBS Money less often, in larger amounts.  Loading your PBS Money account with 10 or 20 dollars at a time will allow you to print more than one wrapper before having to "reload", reducing the cost in fees per wrapper.  Of course, the fee is not applied when you use PBS Money as your payment method for checkout - only when you use Credit/Debit or PayPal.

There is no membership fee (members don't pay for club membership) and no monthly printable postage subscription fee like other printable postage providers charge, so the Kiosk transaction "flat fee" (the same 50 cents no matter how much or how little is purchased) is the only way for us to continue providing the Kiosk. We are sorry about that!

The Gold Key when it was first started had one transaction fee free a month. Then when they discontinued the fee for a while they changed it to one free PBS Postage fee a month. Earlier this year the transaction fee was brought back though.

Money in your PBS Account plays no role in wishlist books being granted as that depends on your place in line or if someone posts you the book directly.

The money needing to be in your account is part of the CD and DVD sites, not PBS.

Gold Key membership entitles members to get one free transaction fee per month. Having or not having PBS money in one's account has no bearing on getting wishes granted or moving up the wishlist. It's purpose is to have pre-paid money in reserve for anything on the site requires monetary payment. Purchasing PBS Money costs $.50 per purchase, so it is more cost effective to purchase PBS in larger amounts per transaction than to purchase in smaller amounts. Monetarily, Gold Key membership basically saves you only $.50 per month in transaction fees. However, see the Help Docs for additional benefits of Gold Key Membership.

Thanks everyone!  I guess I was thinking that I was being skipped on a few wishlist grants when I thought I was first on the wishlist for something and then I see a "1 wishes granted last week" but it wasn't my wish that was granted.  (Maybe I also was mistaken that I was first or someone that was before me just activated the wish.)  Then I started thinking of how you need money in your account on the CD and DVD to be moving up the wishlists on those.  I'm now aware that doesn't apply to Paperbackswap.  Thanks again!

That 1 that was granted could have easily been someone either directly posting to a friend or offering it in the multiples thread also.
