The basics that make up a successful life are pretty simple. But they are not easy. The habits offered are solid. But, they are not quick fixes rather they are fixed principles that one should incorporate into their daily routine. The real value of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" can be realized not by reading but by executing the wisdom within.
I enjoyed listening to this in the car. It helped me examine my priorities and how to better manage my daily commitments. Given my busy life, I would not have taken the time to sit and read this book. I found that listening to it instead was the perfect solution!
I was very disappointed by this book. I found everything, and mean everything, that he proposed as major insight or wisdom to be a restatement of a moral value that I learned growing up or a value that I learned as a young adult by trial and error. If you were raised with any kind of moral compass, you can probably skip this book.
You've read the book now hear the man, Covey himself, talk about the applications! Great examples and ideas on how to improve your effort, your education, and your effectiveness. A great companion to a must read book!
The original 7 habits, but in audio form.
The book is incredibly useful for learning how to control life instead of letting life control you.
I would recommend that you buy and read the book, then listen (over and over and over again) to the tapes to drive it home. Also, good to listen to the tapes periodically to refresh you and encourage you to keep on the habits.
I will never understand how intelligent people can waste their commutes listening to drivel on the radio when they could be pumping their brains full of useful information!

Incredibly valuable book for evaluating and steering your life in the direction in which you would like to go! Even when you flip through the chapters, sometimes thinking "I already do this; I already know this.", you learn more insightful information in every chapter. The subtitle tells it all: "Powerful Lessons in Personal Change". Many of the chapters have spawned additional books but here is where you start. Doing just a few of the exercises and applying them to your life gives you great perspective on where you spend your time and how to back out of the habits that leave you exhausted and unfulfilled.
How was this such a successful book? The guy long winded, self-congratulatory, and comes up with the most stupid analogies possible. I lost interest when he started talking about mental maps we carry in our mind. Amazing!
I am not a fan of Stephen Covey, although I know many, many people who think the book and the course changed their life. There are some interesting things in the book to help you organize your life, but if you've been in the corporate world, most of this -- I think -- you should already know. However, Covey is a multi-millionaire, so there must be somethig to it.
I attend many business seminars and almost every instructor references Stephen Covey and/or The 7 Habits. Everyone in a relationship (personal, business, community,etc.), must read/listen to what he has to say. There are only 4 cassettes.

Careful -- this may not be the book you want! I ordered this "audio book" thinking it was a recording of the classic book. It is NOT. I was deceived by the cover image (it is exactly the same as the actual book) and the fact that is was marked "Unabridged", indicating that it is an audio recording of a book. Instead, this "presentation" is a series of lectures and talks given by Covey and woven together by the publisher. It covers much of the same material as the book, but it is NOT an audio recording of the classic.
Of course, they're great concepts. I honestly think I got the most out of the updated anniversary edition part where Stephen Covey answers some questions. It was refreshing to hear that he still struggles with many of the 7 habits regularly. Really, we're all human and these are great ideals to strive for. I can jive with that. Was my life changed? Nah, but will it help me remember how to help myself and my relationships with others? Sure!
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey represents an ideal, but it is an ideal that makes sense. Do I find myself able to implement to to its fullest? No, but the principles provide a way to center my thoughts and ground myself in my personal and professional life. That is why this book finds a permanent home on my bookshelf and why I still find myself recommending this book to others.
