Can anyone explain what this means, a book I ordered from a PBS member shows this on PBS tracking number. Has never left the sender's city.

" The Postal Service has identified a problem with the processing of this item at 11:00 am on May 26, 2018 in BROOKLYN NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER. The local facility has been alerted and is taking steps to correct the problem."

Thanks, Sandy

Probably should have shown this info also: Every day it has been in Brooklyn there has been the same notation about the exception...

I found this after doing a google search: "USPS processing exception means that for whatever reason, employee, weather or machine malfunction, mail has been delayed from it's anticipated movement thru the mailstream."

So it sounds like a catch-all error code and the package may have been going round and round on a conveyor belt and needs to be handled manually or perhaps there was a problem with USPS scanners reading the tracking number or address. I guess it could be anything at all, really.

I recommend that you PM the sender to have them contact their PO to follow up on it since it seems that it's still stuck at their local/origin PO.

It has now disappeared from tracking altogether...nothing after the 26th.

I tried to find an answer on their website...nothing. I also asked a postal clerk when I was mailing a heavier book...she had no idea.

Wouldn't it just happen to be the only copy in the system.

Thank You so much Linda for your time...appreciate it!

Update:

I made an inquiry and received an answer from a USPS in my area...looks to be a problem with the address??

The sender made an inquiry and was told they will search for it and if found and it meets USPS guiidelines it will be forwarded to the address she provided...looks like it might be on it's way back to her. Maybe??

Showed up on the 31st...this is what shows on PBS

Update:

Might be heading in the right direction...finally. It didn't move between the 2nd and the 8th. If it's not sent back to Brooklyn from Columbus...I might receive it...

Can hardly wait to see if the problem is the label...

if the package is being returned to you and it is media mail you might have to pay for the return.

Success at last!

I finally received this book today.

The problem, just a lot of supposition on my part. The address is fine...label not damaged...BUT, someone put a pink "X" on the label in such a way as to be marked thru her return address and my address.

This is a used mailer and there is a label on the back side, which has all printing blocked out with a black marker. Someone has printed "OTHER SIDE" on a blank spot.

Did the sorting machine try to read the old label and thereby kept circling it through Brooklyn's mail system...I'm thinking yes since my inquiry received a reply of "something wrong with the address". The sender's inquiry got a response "will search and if found will send to the address she gave them".

My faith in the USPS has been restored somewhat...a ways to go to make up for a book dripping with motor oil...

Just got a PM from the sender...

She put a blank label on the used label and did not use a black marker...somehow the blank label evidently came off during sorting. The PO must have done that after they found it in the search...anyway...

I have my book I wanted so badly...made my week!

Thanks for the PM...appreciate it!
