I usually try to order from my forum friends when I can because I feel we have established a relationship of sorts and you can more or less trust that person.

Well, today I remembered why I do that so often.  I had a BOB trade in progress since Dec 26th that I was just about to mark "not received" and leave bad feedback.  Well it finally came today and the postage mark indicated she didn't mail it out until 16 days after she said she did!  Since I got the book, I only left a neutral feedback letting PBS (and other traders) know my experience.  Can you believe she PM'd me to complain?!   Grrrr....

I have one that I never received the books for. I left a negative feedback, but haven't marked it received, not sure what to do. I tried pm'ing her a few times and she never responded.

Kristy, BOB is a paid service so let Robert and/or PBS know.  They take that seriously I'm told.

I know I could let them know, I just hate to bother them with something I guess. It was only a couple books,so. Me and you have BOB'd before haven't we?

BOB is one of those things you have to get your feet wet with to build up a list of buddies you know it's pretty much always a joy to swap with.  I happen to be one of those joys, btw <insert cheesy grin>, and I'm proud of it.  I spoil people I trade with regularly with extra books & little doo-dads like bookmarks  - especially if I like the things they send me and they're all in great condition.  And I always mail asap.  I've only had one bad experience since I got the service.  The books I got were old (like early 1980's old) - which I knew in advance - but they smelled funny; like musty newspaper & vegetable oil, of all things.  The covers had heavy foxing on the inside (that's ugly brown spotty patches), and the pages were very darkly tanned.  I didn't make a peep about it though.  They were mostly old, collectible Harlequins, and I never order those, and I just chalked it up to getting big eyes for something I really didn't want or need to begin with & let it go.  Aside from which, she had a couple dozen BOB swaps under her belt, and all of her feedback scores were like rave reviews, except for one other, and it was basically the same thing - the books were really old and sorta yucky, I guess.  I thought about it and decided I should have paid more attention to that feedback & not ordered really old books I would probably never read anyway...:P

Anyway, I haven't done a lot of BOBs since I've been posting regularly on this forum & making new buddies:)  I've ordered several times from specials on the book bazaar - which I've found better deals on recently - and have done some great swaps with people I've gotten to know from here.  I think it's often easier to figure out who shares your tastes, swap recommendations for books and authors you haven't tried out yet, and get to know people a little bit, here on the forum than it is through BOB.  Less time-consuming anyway.

I'm not a boxer but, yeah, it's frustrating when that happens.  If they'd just take the time to PM you and explain why they didn't mail when they said they would it'd be easier to understand.  We all have things come up but saying you've mailed when you haven't and not explaining why is just plain wrong.

I know Sherri, I try to find someone I "know" on here with a book first. Although I'm not order much besides WL books right now.  I've decided I'm only going to do BOBs for a couple books at a time.  I rarely find someone with a shelf that has more than 2 that I want anyway.

Kristy I'm pretty sure we have.

Mary, this trade was for just two books but they were ones I wanted but didn't really want to spend a credit on.  Oh well, I guess being selfish was my problem LOL.

I'm just now getting to know folks here on the forum, but I gotta tell ya, getting to know folks has decreased my number of credits because I've ordered more books AND my WL is now HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!

It's all good!

My WL - bad enough at around 80 something before I started posting here - grew to over the 100 mark immediately after.  I finally went through it and my RL tonight and shaved them both down some.  Ordered some things from my RL with the ton of credits I got from my special, and dropped things off my WL that I've ordered from half.com over the last couple of days.  It's not great, but better...

I understand what you are saying....all of you.  It's hard when you wait for the books, and wait, and wait.   Then they are not what you expected.

You want to be nice and not complain...but it is hard.

Oh I know. My TBR piles is rapidly approaching 400 and I have a cross-country move coming up. I'm going to have to hide all these books before we move. I told DH I'd get rid of most of them. So they'll have to go into storage soon.  I think I'll mark the box Tampons or something so he won't go looking in there.

On the original note: not about bad books but no response. So I'm trying to get the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th  books of a series that I have the 3rd one to already.  I request the 1st book, it times out.  Well into the 2nd day of request # 2 and no response-I decide to order the 5th book (2&4 aren't available) on the off chance that that person has #1. They do so I cancel the languishing 2nd request. And now, still no response to my now 2 book request.  It's not like I need these books. I have so many others. But they go with the book I have already.

I hear ya!  I'm waiting on a book to be mailed ... and I ordered it via FIFO a week ago.  The PBS member printed out the label immediately so I was hopeful, but she should have marked it "sent" by Tuesday, and still nothing.  Of course, since the label has been printed, I can't cancel it.  Ugh.

The only problems I have ever had is with water damage.  I have received a few books that arrived with water damage.  I choose to believe that they got wet in the mail (they were not wrapped in plastic) rather than think they posted damaged books.  I had to add a book condition thingy to my account to request that only books wrapped in plastic be sent to me.  Anyone else had this problem?

I agree with all of you. I am waiting on a BOB righ now that has been in the system for over a month.  I sure hope I get it.  I love the BOB but it can be a risk.  I have not had trouble with damage.  I receied some older books that were well read but I have sent some too.

I try to send out to everyone here and order from here too.  What do all of you think about starting a thread of books that you are looking for or WL.  That way if we have a WL book but would like to send it to somone here we could do a short post.  Plus if we are looking for a book we could ask if anyone had it on there shelf.  Just a thought.  Sometime I do not have the time to look at everyone here and I really like to keep it in the family so to speak.

Has anyone ever had a request rejected for a weird reason?  I got my sister hooked on PBS and she emailed me today to tell me that someone rejected her requests because she has an APO address and the person "didn't want the hassle of filling out the customs forms" (that's actually the reason they gave her!).  My sister's husband is in the Army and they live in Germany.  She has to fill out a customs form everytime she sends a book to the states.  She was really upset about it.  Does that not seem wrong?

That seems like quite a legitimate reason to me, actually.  I go to the post office all the time, so it wouldn't bother me, but I probably wouldn't mail to an APO again because last time I did the book never arrived. (Or maybe I would and use DC.)

Stuff requiring customs forms also requires you go to the PO counter.  I do all my mailing from home so going to the PO counter would be inconvenient for me.  Depending on when I could possibly make it there, I might turn down the request too since some weeks I just can't make it there while the PO is open.

I have a BOB I'm waiting on .... I mailed last week. She accepted the day I offered, and nothing since. She hasn't printed or anything. I PMed her a couple of days ago and still no word. I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe there's somethning wrong...

I have had BOB trades where I've ended up with water damaged books... I'm just glad I didn't pay a credit for them. I've gotten water damaged books that I did pay a credit for!

I still think BOB is great, I've had a lot of good trades:)
