I added Swoon by Nina Malkin to my WL for DD.  I just got an email stating a "book similar to the one you are wishing for has been listed to the system."  It looks to be the paperback version but when click on it I get this~ Advanced and uncorrected reader's proof.

I know ARCs can be posted to the threads...but are we now able to post them to the system?  What I found in help documents seem to indicate we still aren't allow to post to FIFO... but I thought maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Thanks

Hi Marie. According to the Help Doc What can be posted for swapping here?, ARCs are still on the "Not Allowed" list. I'll send in some feedback to check about this particular listing. I've never seen an ISBN assigned solely to an ARC, though to be fair my experience with ARCs is relatively limited. The Team will know what to do, though :)

That's what I found too.  I actually did send it in as feedback and I got an email in return saying it's not allowed but it's still posted so I'm not sure they understood what I was talking about.  Hopefully you'll have better luck!  Thanks for your help!

The PBS database has many listings for items that cannot be swapped on the site. It's a generic database that has almost every ISBN issued in the U.S. and a few from other countries as well, so if an ARC got its own ISBN somehow, that listing is going to keep appearing at PBS forever. It's against the site's rules to use it to post a book though. You also can't use the ISBNs that show up for blank journals, calendars, coloring books, etc.

Cathy is correct, the PBS data source has many ISBNs of items that are not postable at PBS, and yet these are added by the source to our database.  Just because they appear here as a PBS listing, does NOT mean it is postable here. The PBS rules always supercede these data listings.

The problem is I almost requested it!  I actually hit order this book and it was just on a whim that I canceled and went back to look at it since something didn't seem right.

I did sent the person a PM since I was able to do it from my transaction page... but it still appears to be there and I haven't heard back.

Thanks for eveyone's help!

A member is also able to add a listing with a full ISBN too. This could be something that member added when they posted it. Hopefully the Team has contacted them about offering ARCs on their bookshelf and let them know that a receiver can ask for their credit back and they would need to return it so setting up a PBS listing isn't getting them by the rules in any way.

eta: the posted copy has  been removed from the system and the notation that it is an ARC has been removed from the listing.
