Academic Squaw : Reports to the World from the Ivory Tower
Academic Squaw Reports to the World from the Ivory Tower Author:Wendy Rose Chapbook of poems illustrated with three drawings by the author. — Author's blurb: "These poems deal primarily with the experience of being an Indian person not only in the city, not only surrounded all the time by non-Indians, but also being terribly far into the "system," that is graduate school, academia, etc. I sort of tend to think of the u... more »niversity as a huge reservation with three hundred different languages and little unifying culture. There is a definite line over which cultures do not cross and I am every day bumping into that line."
Wendy Rose was born in Oakland, California in 1948 of Hopi and Chowchilla Miwok ancestry. She has a B.A. degree in anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley and is currently there working for a Ph.D. in anthropology. She considers herself as having three careers: anthropologist, artist, and poet.
The collection of poems represented in this issue of Blue Cloud Quarterly is from her full length manuscript, Lost Copper, for which she is seeking a publisher. [This has since been published as Lost Copper by the Malki Museum Press, Banning, CA, 1980.]« less
