Ok. In November, a WL book was offered to me. I accepted the same day. Member never responded and the order timed out. A few days later the book was posted again by the same member. The book was eventually marked mailed. This was November 13th. The book eventually went lost. A week or so after the lost date I PMed the member to see if it was mailed on time, mainly so I could prevent receiving 2 copies of the book. The member never responded to my PM.

Well, today (about an hour ago) the book was offered to me again! Joy! But.. it was posted by the same member as last time. I'm just afraid this book is cursed, and won't make it to me again. I'm debating whether or not I want to accept it and take my chances or decline and lose my place on the WL.

So, am I being unreasonably leery about this situation? I might be, as I can't think of any benefit to posting a book 3 times and never mailing it. Right?

EDIT: I'm going to accept it and keep my fingers crossed that it actually arrives/is mailed this time!

How can it keep being the same person? Are you the only one on the wish list? They seem to have the only copy in the world. I think you accept, but if it times out, maybe contact TPTB.

It's a wish list of 106. I've been #1 for quite a few months. Seems unlikely, I know. But they've posted the book 3 times now. No other copies have been posted since November (the original offer).

I have to wonder if they actually mailed it that time it went lost...

I think they just keep on posting it and not mailing it.  And since no one else has posted it in the meantime you keep being the recipient.  I might contact TPTB, as this shouldn't be happening.

What book is it, if you don't mind me asking.  I watched Oprah's show on hoarding last night so I'm in the middle of a book purge.

edited because i cannot type at all today

Yeah...I had that happen to me once also. Book was posted, my autorequest accepted it, it was marked mailed almost immediately. The book went lost, timed out. I'm back at #1 in line. About 2 weeks later, the book was posted again, by the same member. I accepted, same thing--marked mailed right away. 3 weeks into the wait, I contacted TPTB and that person's account was closed a couple days later. I believe they must've had problems with some other transactions too.

The book is Going Bovine by Libba Bray.

I sent a quick message to TPTB explaining the situation. I wasn't going to, but perhaps it is something that should be brought to their attention.  Thanks everyone!

I have a conspiracy theory.  Member A is #2 on the wishlist.  A friend of Member A, call him Member B, posts the book even though he doesn't have a copy.  While you are waiting for Member B's imaginary book, his accomplice Member A is #1 on the list, giving Member A a chance to get the book before you.  When the book goes lost, you are again #1 on the list, and since Member A hasn't gotten the book yet, they wash and repeat the scheme.

Ohhhh.....You know what?......Maybe Member A and Member B are the SAME PERSON, with two accounts.  You never know what people may do to get used books.

Just thought I'd add to the paranoia!!

I had to actually sit down and think about that one for a minute.

When I was still a newbie, this kept happening to me too.  The really wierd thing was they kept marking it mailed AND using PBS DC but not mailing it.  DC never scanned,  book went lost, then 2 weeks later they would repost the book.  Rince and repeat.  No PMs from member either.

I eventually contacted PBS and they suspended member.  It was VERY annoying.
