Ok- let's see if this will make sense...

I know that sometimes people will put their accounts on hold so that they can catch up on their reading, but not lose their place in the WL lines.

My question is... can you still post books to people's WL's if your account is on hold?  (To "build-up" credits for upcoming WL grantings while you "catch-up" without "losing your place in line"?)

Just wondering- started thinking about it because I was having someone post to my WL, and she was wondering how she was going to do it because she had her account on hold & she was #1 for a bunch of her WL books...  She did post, so I guess I'm kind of wondering if she just ended up with a bunch of WL books, or if there's a way to post books while you stay on hold?

(I tried looking in the Help Docs, but didn't see an answer- didn't know if you can "unhide" one book or something... but then wouldn't it go right to FIFO?)

No. You can unhold your account just long enough for the books to get offered to the wishers, but if your account is on hold all of your books are hidden, even WLed books.

Britney is right- it won't work if you try to post a WL book to someone when your account is on hold.  It will be posted to your bookshelf, which is on hold, and then when it comes off of hold, it will go into FIFO.

But there is an exception to this. If you are posting books directly to someone's bookshelf. Say you have a buddy that has several books on their WL that you have and want to send them. You CAN go into their wl and post them directly to them while you are vacation hold. I've done it this way several times. I'm not sure if that applies to what you are wanting to do, but hope it helps. :)

But how do you mark them mailed if your account is still on hold?

If there's an active transaction you can mark the book mailed.  If your account is on hold, no one can request books from you.  But if you're off hold long enough to post books and someone requests them, then it's an active transaction that you can complete on your end, EVEN if your account was put back on vacation hold.

ETA: what Misty said is not true.  Those books will still be on hold on your bookshelf, and they will go to FIFO when your account is no longer on hold, even if you intended to send them to a specific person.

Are you sure that is working that way for you Misty?? Unless they've changed it recently, the book used to go on hold if you tried that and then when you take it off of Vacation Hold, it just goes to the FIFO system not the person you tried posting too.

But how do you mark them mailed if your account is still on hold? - Debbie, you can do everything in your account while on Vacation Hold except post books, get requests, or get WL books offers on books that are not set to auto-request. You can even still order books on Vacation Hold!

Misty, no, I found out the hard way that that is not how it is.  I put my account on vacation hold a few days before leaving for vacation and then tried to post a book to a buddy.  When she didn't get the request after an hour, I took my account off hold, only to have the book go to the first person in the FIFO line.  I had to cancel that order to post to my buddy with my account off hold.  Not sure why the system is like this, OR why it is not stated in the HC, because I looked....but that's the way it is.
