I have waited for this book since the very first book and I truely enjoyed it.
I loved the first half of the book and it answered so many of my questions that I had oftened wondered while reading the other Dark Hunter books. The second half was very sweet and cute but it went a little fast for me but then maybe I was enjoying it so much I didn't want the book to end.

Ok, I admit when I first saw the book I was a little intimdated. That being said, once I started I simply could not put it down. When I did finished (reading it none stop)I wanted to cry that it was over. The absolute best book of the series!! I cried through the first half and cheered and laughed through the second half. The hero Ash, well WOW! The heroine was tender and strong. It goes in my keeper shelf along with all the others of this series. The only problem is, Ms. Kenyon how do you top Acheron?

Just finish... Oh my gods! The the first 3rd or so of the book brings you to tears. The hideous stuff that Ash when through growing up is enough to push you to commit murder to those that hurt him. They say that your past makes who you are today. Ash could have terned out a LOT differently then the Ash we know and love. Sooooooo happy to see him find his love, it was a long time coming, some 10,000 years coming. Never has a book made me wished it went on and never ended. I can't wait for the next. Although I am waating with bated breath, because the next book is Stryker's and well I can't see him changing sides any more then I can see Artemis bowing down and kissing Ash's feet. Sherri did say that Stryker's book is not what we are expecting... So her I am lying in wait.

OMG! I had never read a Sherrilyn Kenyon book before, but my sister would tell me all about the Dark-Hunters and Ash, so I got it for my birthday. It is probably THE BEST book I've ever read in my life. I cried so much and laughed. I have to tell everyone I know about the book whenever I talk to them. I have since gotten the other books in the series, but I'm afraid that they will never measure up to Acheron. Whenever I try to read another book, pretty soon I can't see the words in front of my face, I'm seeing scenes from Ash's life instead. That Nickelback song is totally stuck in my head too! It's a good thing it's one of my favorites. I can't wait to read the other books so I can encounter Acheron and Simi and hopefully get my fix, lol. I'm sure I will enjoy the others, but I think everyone should read this book. It's so well written and worth every hour of sleep you will lose because you can't put it down. Ok, I have to stop now or I never will. Don't wait for your wish to be granted, GO BUY IT!

This book's first part put me through an emotional ringer, once started was hard to put down, Like the forward by AG said it's darker than any other. It's giving us Dark Hunter fans a look into what happened to our beloved Ash. And for a fictional character it was horrible the emotional, Physical, and other abuses he suffered. The Part two which is the happy ever after part was interesting, would have liked more part two than part one but to get the whole scope of what makes Ash, Ash you must read through part one, It's long but worth it. I loved the comic relief throughout this book, would have like to have seen a bit more dialog between characters, and here's one of my favorite quotes in the book:
"Acheron. When it absolutely, positively must be destroyed overnight."

If you like the Dark Hunter series I think you will enjoy getting lost in Ash's story.

The first half of the book is very dark and emotional as we see all that has been wrong in Ash's long, long life. The reader cannot help but feel Ash's pain, both the physical and the emotional. Though sometimes difficult to read the first half of Ash's story is essential to understand who he has become. The second half of the story is where Ash learns to trust and to love for the first time in his long existence. You feel happiness for him and cannot help but smile at the miracle that Soteria is for him.

Spoiler: Wait until you get to the second half of the book...It has something to do with Sprite and is soooo funny.:0)

As an avid Dark Hunter fan (and Acheron in particular), I had been fantasizing about Acheron's story FOREVER! This book did not disappoint at all. As other reviews have stated, the first half is about Acheron's mortal life and is heartbreaking. The second half of the book is present tense, where he meets his heroine. How do you come up with a heroine suitable for a man/god such as Acheron? SK does it nicely! I could not have come up with a better heroine for Acheron (unless it was myself!) than Soteria. She was intelligent, compassionate, and gentle with my beloved Acheron. I also enjoyed the fact that SK made Acheron less imposing and more 'human'. There were times when I laughed out loud (the image of Acheron clumsily falling off a ladder, and landing on his nicely shaped butt! or using his god powers to make his cell phone ring to get out of an uncomfortable situation). Much of Acheron's peculiarities were explained in this book, and I look forward to seeing him appear in future books, to see how his 'happily ever after' continues to play out. The only thing I would have changed was the heroine's rebuttal to Artemis. Not nearly vicious enough for my bloodthirsty nature!! I plan on rereading many of the earlier DH books, now that I know the reasons for much of Acheron's behavior.

I think this was possibly the best Dark Hunter book yet...

It will tear your emotions apart, you become so involved it's almost impossible not to cry. He goes through so much torture and degradtion, and the fact that he is immortal makes his suffering even greater.

The heroine is perfect for him and I absolutely couldn't have thought of anyone better.

Kudos fof AG

I read it in 9 hours...was up till 4am but it is totally worth it.

I absolutely loved this book!

I am a die-hard fan of this series and was so worried that this book would be a let down. I've only bought 2 books hot off the press - this one and one by Suzanne Brockmann (SEALS). The Brockmann was good but left me not as excited about the series. Not this book! I never re-read a book, but the story of Acheron has left me wanting to re-read the whole series. Just so I can go back and say to myself "ohhh, that's why he did that!"

It's so good I'm not even sure yet if I want to get rid of it. And that is saying alot for someone who has read thousands of books, yet only owns 5.

The only bad thing I can say is that it is in hardback and I HATE hardbacks. The sad thing is I'm not sure it'll EVER be in paperback it's just too big I think.

All of us Dark Hunter fans have been waiting patiently to read more about Acheron. The glimpses that we have gotten of him in the series have been intriguing.

As much as I have wanted to read this book (It has been on my bookshelf for 3 months) - I kept putting it off because in reading the reviews for it - I knew the first half of the book was going to be brutal and I had to mentally prepare myself for reading it. It was brutal, but in reading the story, it also became hopeful. I have never before wanted to dive into a book and kill some of the characters before. I wanted to protect our dear Acheron from the horrors that he experienced in his young life.

This is a must read for all Dark Hunter fans - we get a huge amount of back story about Acheron, the start of the Dark Hunters, and who were the people in the legends that were talked about in previous books, i.e. who was Apollo's mistress that was killed by the Apollites. It was also a traditional Dark Hunter book in the sense that our hero finally finds his heroine - who is his perfect match! I highly recommend this book

5 stars is a rating I rarely give a book. But this novel does the rating complete justice. It is a fantastic tale. A complete look into Acheron's true self, and how he came to be in his words a "wrangler" (for the Dark-Hunters). Kenyon did not disappoint her fans with this tale in my opinion. I admit, after reading all previous 11 DH books and enjoying them very much, I was afraid this book of Ash would fall short. It did not. Kenyon's words quickly brought me into the story, and I could not stop reading. This book is a knockout! Enjoy Acheron's journey.

Kenyon's long awaited ACHERON. I have been panting and slobbering for this book since I heard it was on it's way and BOY did it deliver! Acheron has always been a fixture in the Darkhunter series but while reading the first books I never expected to actually get his story. It IS a long read but the story is so engrossing and engaging it FLIES by! The first 400 pages or so are a little hard to read not because the story was poor but poor Ash had to go through so much it was difficult reading a character I like so much and followed so long in so much pain. It just makes the second half that much better!!
Once Ash and Tory get together it's WONDERFUL!
I LOVE Soteria. Smart, funny, witty and strong. What's not to love.
Even is the you find the book so-so The confrontation scene between Tori and Artemis will make you shout out loud. READ. IT.

This is the best book I ever read!! Kenyon really out did herself with this novel. I love all of her books in this series but "Archeron" is not only the best in this series but by far the best book ever composed.

In all of the books leading up to this one Archeron is a mysterious and forboading character. He distances himself from everyone else and makes decisions that don't make much sense to the reader...that is until now, with the publication of his story.

It you are looking for a spectacular series, this is the one for you. Then when you have read all the previous books and finally reach book 12 "Archeron" his story is breath takenly sad and full of suspense as you learn who he really is, what he goes through and why is is the way he is. This is a MUST READ! But I suggest you read books 1-11 prior to reading this one so you fall in love with all the characters in the series and watch the suspence of Archerons story come to it's apex.

Hmmmmm what to say. It was extremely long, over 700 pages. Worth it but long. Almost all Sherrilyns books I cannot put down, this one I put down several times and read other books before I came back to it, mostly because of what your reading is pretty hard to read just because of the cruelty. It definetly makes you understand Ash more, and I loved the ending. It is a Must read if your reading the Dark Hunter books!

Love the Dark Hunters' series. This was akin to waiting for the Harry Potter books. And it was worth it. It answered a lot of the questions regarding Ash and his mother, and his relationship with Artemis. The book is close to 800 pages long but I found myself just flying thru the pages and the centuries. In tears at times, madder than hell on other occasions. Sherrilyn has again come thru with an amazing book. The last third, I would have liked more development and more intrigue but, hey, can't win them all. All in all, a great story. However, still left me wondering about Ash, his hunters and Artemis... We will have to wait and see. I get the impression that we are not totally rid of the bitch-goddess.

The first half of this book is very disturbing, but very much needed to show the horrors that Acheron went through and what shaped into the man he is in present time. I have to say of all the books I've read Acheron is my ideal man. What a woman wouldn't do to have someone like him, but it's only in the books :-) Sherrilyn outdid herself on this book and it is by far the best in the Dark-Hunter series. <3 Acheron

This book is somewhat an anomaly among Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, at least from my perspective. While I've never found the majority of her other books interesting, this one was a gripping (and hefty) pile of paper that I wanted to reread as soon as I was finished.

It's organized into basically two sections. In the first section, set in the distant past, we see a relentlessly depressing series of events sprinkled with just enough delightful reprieve to make the lows all the worse. This is my favorite half of the book, for reasons I can't really explain.

In the second half of the book, Acheron (now nicknamed "Ash") is awesome and the rest of the book details his awesomeness in its entirety. It's fun to read.

Be warned, there is some very explicit content in this book as well. This may sound a little weird (and you probably won't understand if you haven't read it) but those scenes are some of my favorite parts in the book.

It's one of the most gripping, memorable, and fantastic books I've read in the past few years and I'd highly recommend it to anybody. It may be a 700-page monster, but I plowed through it in one day of near-constant reading and I can almost guarantee you'll do the same.

I would never had imagined his horrific beginnings and it's amazing that he is such a good person. I do have to say that I preferred the first half of the story over the second. Kenyon, IMO, hasn't written a great romance in a while. I don't feel the connection or chemistry between the main characters and, sadly, Acheron was no exception. I also felt that he wasn't the same person I've come to love over the course of the series. Even though I now know why, he came off as whiny and needy and I'm used to seeing the strong Ash. I haven't decided yet if I am done with the Dark Hunters for good.

One of the longest stories Kenyon has. Its acheron's (Ash's) story. Half of the book tells Ash's past which I believe was necessary for us who have read all of Kenyon's dark hunter's stories and were a little confused at times with Ash's actions and beliefs. By knowing his past I now truly understand how and why Ash acted the way he did. This story goes to show you how great a writer Kenyon is. Ash is one of my favorite characters, and there wasnt a moment while reading about his past that I didnt want to crawl into that story and really hurt those who hurt him. There wasnt a moment that I didnt want to protect him and ease his hurts. When an author is able to make her characters come so alive that her readers really like and route for them, she is truly great. One of her best. Worth the read.

It jumps back and forth between Ash now and his life before. All the dirty little details, but it makes you understand what makes him who he is. A lot of what he lived through was disturbing and I cried for him several times through the book.

There are a lot of rave reviews for this book, and for anyone who has been following the Dark-Hunter series, they are understandable. The first half explicitly answers a lot of the mythology of the world and shows us Acheron's early life in painful detail. It was excellent. The second half is a pretty typical Dark-Hunter romance, reminds me somewhat of Zarek's, which was a favorite of mine. It took me a while to warm up to Tory, I think it would have been more interesting if the heroine had been someone with more to lose. But all in all, I loved it too.

This is the best of the Dark-Hunter series by far. I have read most of the other books, more or less in order. But there were so many questions raised and not answered, until now. This is really two books - the first half is Acheron's birth, childhood, and young manhood. Not for the faint of heart and very sad at times. The second half fastforwards several thousand years to modern day to tell the story of how Acheron finally found love and pried himself away from Artemis.

Don't be intimidated by the length of the book. Although, you may feel the need for a bit of a break by reading something else between the two distint halves.

It was a long book but a good one that kept me reading late into the night. There were parts that were difficult to read because of the subject matter, more so in the first portion of the book that focuses on Acheron's early life, but it gave you a greater apperciation and understanding of his personality and behaviors throughout all the other books. There were some moments in the second part that seemed a bit silly but I think the intensity and darkness of the first half contributed to that feeling. Some incidences required a bit more "suspension of disbelief" than othersin "part 2". But it was great to see a Happy ending for a favorite character.

I cryed like a baby!!!! and though i know I had to know what happened to Ash, I will never read the first part of the book again!!! but the second half I loved and will re-read many times, once I get a paperback copy that is, the Hardcover was just too much for me to handle and hope to find someone who wants it, though I can't afford to pay the postage so it wont be something I will send out!!!

If you are Dark-Hunter lover you must read this one!!!!

I love all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books. However, Acheron's story left me confused and a little irritated. It is hard to believe that he becomes the strong and compassionate character that is presented to us in the previous books. Because his life begins so rough and cruel, he is weak and even at times pathetic. Then when the story is brought to the present day the romance part happens way to fast and leaves one wanting more. I agree that Acheron's story needed to be told, however maybe the romance side of his story could have been saved for another book and the development of his change in character examined a little bit more. In all if you are a fan of the Dark-Hunter series this book is a must read then. It does explain how Acheron becomes the head of the dark hunters.

Excellent anchor to the Dark Hunter series. Really love this story of the son of the a goddess who has the power to destroy a world. I was a bit frustrated with the character of the hero's half sister who I wondered throughout the book if she was suppose to be for or against the main character. The antagonist are truly bad people who get what comes to them. A different hero - one who survives although he is not the classically strong, super macho guy. You cheer out loud for this protagonist. A must read in the Dark Hunter series.
