I have a multi book order being sent to a different address than the requestors.  I'm a little nervous as this is the first time I've come across this.  Do they just mark it recieved when the other person tells them it has arrive?  Is this and OK thing?  Its 6 books so I'm a little afraid about loss.  Has anyone encountered this?  Do the transaction work out smoothly?

I've never actually noticed if the book was going to some other address, but I've had books sent to my mom before.  I mark them received when she let me know they got there ok.

If you're worried, why not use the PBS delivery confirmation or DC + Postage?  You get your credits right away, you don't have to go to the post office, and it doesn't cost that much more (cheap peace of mind!)

Janice, I order books for my mom all the time, 'cus her and computers just don't get along.  Once a book is marked mailed, I give it a few days and then start calling my mom to see if she has received them.

you can always use printed postage that way you get the credit when its mailed

or you use the  DC and you get credit when its scanned the PO

I'm not sure if DC will work for multiple shipment.  Can it somehow be attached to each book or just the package as a whole?

When you print a bulk wrapper for all the books together, the DC ties to all the books as a whole. Once it is scanned (or marked mailed if full PBS postage) you get ALL the credits.

I've never had a problem with mailing to an alternative address, though none of mine came through general FIFO requests, mine were buddies or deals worked out through PMs. All of mine were marked received in a timely fashion, but I did put DC on them all so that the requester could track too and see when the other person got the books.

One thing about sending to a second address, (which I do often as I order books to send to both my Mother and my niece for her classroom) is that they cannot mark the books RWAP.   But, as folks mentioned, the person ordering needs to mark the books received, not the person getting the books.  So I really do recommend PBS DC.  The great thing about a bulk order is that you only pay the DC fee once.  Makes it very worth it.

No problem at all using PBS-DC and postage with a multiple book shipment.  I've done it many times.  If you're using PBS-Postage though, just make sure you update the weight to reflect the weight of all the books you're going to ship so that the right amount of postage will print.

Yeah, the only time I had a ship to alternate address, I had a problem getting the other trader to mark it received.  I sent the first P.M. to her a couple of days before lost in the mailed and she wrote back,  "yeah, I haven't asked my friend if she got it yet."  A few more PM's were exchanged, then I gave up.

She did finally mark it recieved - but that wasn't until about 7 or so weeks after I mailed it.  And, given the PM exchanges, I don't believe it took longer than the usual 5 to 10 days.

So, in order to minimize stress, my rule is to only send to alternate addresses using DC.

On the other side, I too, order books to be sent to my mother.  I love that it is so easy to do.

As others have said, they're likely sending a book to a friend or family member. I do that occasionally and also send those occasionally and haven't had any issues with it at all.
