I used the Buy This Book feature here at PBS twice.  Those are my only two Amazon purchases ever so I don't have much experience with Amazon.  The first purchase was great.  I got an email that the book had been mailed and it arrived promptly.

This second book, I have never received an email that it has been mailed.  The estimated time in which it was supposed to be mailed has passed.  Does this mean that it hasn't been mailed?

My exact questions are   Do they always send an email when the package has been shipped and if you have not received an email then can you go ahead and cancel the order?

Did you order it direct from Amazon, or one of the used book sellers?  Either way, Amazon should have a record of the transaction in your account transactions file.  I think you can email them and report that the book hasn't been shipped.  You should also be able to contact the seller, if it wasn't Amazon.  I've bought a lot of books through there and never had that happen, so I almost have to log in to my account & look at the history, to say for certain all that is correct.

You should have received an order confirmation from Amazon at the time you placed the order.  Even if you were ordering from one of their online sellers.

You can go into Amazon and check your account and status of all orders.

If it hasn't been shipped, you can cancel.  I'm ticked off at them right now since I paid extra to have some DVD's delivered by 2-14.

They swore that DHL would have them delivered to my Post Office (PO Box address) by then.  They delivered them to the main PO in a different city on the 14th, and I still don't have them.  The other part of the order sent via USPS, got here two days ago!

It sounds like you ordered a book through one of their market place sellers. I have only done that one time, and didn't get a confirmation e-mail. You should log onto Amazon just to check things out though. As much as I want to help PBS out using the buy this book feature, I find it so much easier to go to Amazon.com and Order $25.00 worth of books and get free shipping, They even have clearance books and buy 4 for the price of three.

Thanks, everyone for responding.  I found the place where you can email the seller.  I did that and he replied right away.  He said he had been out sick and was behind but that my book was in the mail.

(Both of my books were from independent sellers, not Amazon.com.)  Does Amazon sell used books itself or only new ones?

I'll have to look into the free shipping on $25 thing.  I do that at Barnes And Noble online and at Books A Million online but have never looked into Amazon.

I'm pretty sure Amazon only sells new books, so if you buy them used, it's through one of the marketplace sellers.  I know they have all of the transactions on record though.

no, the markeplace sellers is different shipping. what I meant was that say a book new from amazon is 10.95 but there's a used one for 7.99 bu tthe shipping on that one will be 3.99..it costs more unless I factor in the s hipping amazon charges for under $25 orders. But usually I add another book to the order (or two!) and get free shipping so the brand new books cost less than ordering from the seller. but sometimes the price has been low enough that even with the shipping it was worth it.

I think amazon automatically bills you the full shipping price even if you order from the same seller...half.com at least discounts it a bit thoughnot enough IMO. I know someone who somehow contacted a seller about some dvds and they agreed to discount though I'm not sure how they did it...

Ah. Yeah, I usually save up my Amazon purchases until I get over $25 also.

Here's a link to find small priced Amazon items to use as fillers when you only need a couple of dollars to reach $25:

I heard somewhere that you can ask the seller to give you a discount if you buy more than one thing from them. It's unfortunate that Amazon doesn's do this automatically like Half does, though.
