Hi there! =)

We are starting to try to put together our curriculum list for next school year for our son, who will be going into the 4th grade.

I am struggling between trying to meet the state standards and what works for our son.

Does anyone have any advice? I looked into the A Beka curriculum, but it is just not for us.

Looking for something similar to state textbooks (we are in Florida) but also looking for "extras".

I Love to add as many extras to the curriculum as possible, just trying to plan a base text/workbook core.

Any suggestions would be so very appreciated. Thank you.

Have you looked at the Well trained Mind curriculum? I have checked some of their books out at our library and they seemed to be very thorough. I personally like Rod and Staff for English, but am supplementing it with All About Spelling. We use Spectrum Math and have purchased Abeka's math for next year. It is more advanced. We also like Abeka's Science and have used alot of Switched on Schoolhouse for Social Studies. My son loves doing something on the computer and you can buy SOS seperately for each subject you want to use.

The thing that helped me choose curriculum was going to a Homeschool Convention. So maybe you could find if there is one near you this summer. There you will be able to check out different kinds of curriculum.

WE like Unit Studies also and we are doing one on Aquariums rhis month.

Hope this helps,

Tricia

Thank you for the great suggestions, going to look into them right away.

Also, thank you for those great links. =)

Appreciate the direction, feeling a little lost on which was to go for next year.

Thank you again. =)
