Almost a Gentleman Author:Mary Balogh Pre-release notes from the author (to be changed upon publication in August 2012): — "This is the story of Gwen, Lady Muir, who appears in the previous two books and in a number of the Slightly and Simply books. Her hero is Hugo Emes, Lord Trentham, a middle class man who distinguished himself during the Peninsula Wars when he led a brilliantly s... more »uccessful Forlorn Hope attack on a seemingly impregnable Spanish fortress. He was rewarded with a promotion and a title-and then proceeded to go out of his mind with guilt over being almost the only survivor and the only one of those who was not even wounded. Almost a Gentleman is set for publication in hardcover in August 2012.
Hugo, Lord Trentham, is one of seven members of the Survivors' Club. Five of them are former military officers who survived the Napoleonic Wars though they spent a few years together on the estate of the Duke of Stanbrook in Cornwall, recovering from various wounds and traumas. A sixth member is the duke himself, who lost his officer son during the wars. The seventh member is a woman, who witnessed the torture and death of her husband, a spy during the wars. I plan to give each of them a story."« less
