If I remember right (and I'm too lazy to go search for the old threads!) we started Secret Santa sign-ups around the first of November last year, and I put up the 2011 HF Challenge at about the same time so everyone could put books that they wanted for the Challenge on their Secret Santa list.  Deb has already been coerced volunteered to head up Secret Santa again.  I've said that I am willing to do the Challenge again unless someone else has a crazy cool idea for it and wants to volunteer.  The Challenge has been led by a different person each year which has given it a unique twist every time.  I don't have anything specific in mind yet...I'd have to think on it some more...so if somebody else wants to do it, I will be more than happy to hand over the wet noodle (after I pry it from the hands of Deb the Enforcer!)

Christa, I think if you did the challenge for one more year, you could really get it right this time.  devil

Ah, the Secret Santa exchange... I am being proactive this year and asking the Dr to up my meds BEFORE I start shopping for my recipient.  Of course this could backfire.  Meds make me go to my happy place...which is a bookstore....DAMMIT!  Back to the drawing board...

Seriously I can't wait for Secret Santa or the new challenge.  You should totally do the challenge again Christa.  Not saying that no one else here can top the challenge you came up with for this year but it was pretty awesome (and the rest of us all want to be lazy and read anyway) so you've got my vote again!

Go for it Christa! You're a hard act to follow so you may have that job permanently! yes

Deb, we've got to get SHOPPING for the Secret Santa, so don't we need to start by putting up a list as to who wants to be in on this??? Just asking....wink

Yep, I've already received permission from TPTB for the Secret Santa/Holiday Exchange so go ahead and up your meds -- I will start sign-ups Nov. 1 or thereabouts.  And as for yielding the wet noodle, I'm open to bribes.

I look forward to Secret Santa all year--my fave! And, discussing 2012 HF Challenge now has me stressed, because I am just not quite finished with 2011.....sigh. Mayhaps I bit off more than I could chew........

Is it rhat time already?  I've been working hard on my challenges and I, too, may ha ve bit off more than I could chew but it's fun anyway.  I have finished the first two sections of the HF challenge, the mini mystery HF challenge and a read along.   So it goes!  Christa:  Do you need ideas for the 2012 challenge?  I loved the section where we could do a series or a group by one author or topic.  Will soon have my shelf purged from that section.  Otherwise my reading goes from one to another which is ok too since I find new authors.  I'm giving the books I got last year to my granddaughter for Christmas or her birthday!  Books are a must for everyone in my family!

Yes! I need ideas for 2012.  And things you've liked and not liked from past challenges.  A few ideas are starting to germinate, but nothing has really bloomed yet!

I'm fairly new (my 1st challenge) but is the Secret Santa just a book exchange or could I send let's say a wind-up toy too? (that's if you'll have me, of course!)

Bonnie, I know I speak for all of us when I say we would LOVE to have you and in fact, would be quite devastated if you did NOT participate!  The Secret Santa is primarily a book exchange, however, you are encouraged (but not required) to add little treats.  We usually put a maximum dollar value on the total package so nobody goes way overboard (really unnecessary, since none of us are the overboard type wink).  So I'd say you should start shopping for wind-up toys!

Bonnie - if you search this forum for say, "Secret Santa 2010", you will probably get an idea of what people have given/received in the past. I think this is our third (or will it be the fourth?) year to do this.

There CAN be chocolate involved. You will get a chance to let us know what you like and which books you really, really want, although most of us go to your WL. Keep an eye out for when this all starts, Bonnie and you'll get the hang of it! wink

Whee!! Super excited for both HF Challenge and the Secret Santa, hope y'all don't mind another newbie joining in. I missed out on them last year, as I hadn't really discovered the forums yet. Looking forward to getting involved in them this year, though! smiley
