Look into a extended warranty like Squaretrade (very cheap).  My one year manufacturing warranty just passed a month ago, and I had some pixels die (I think), squaretrade is taking care of it.  I paid like 35 or somwhere around there for a 2 year extended warranty.

If you don't have "Kindle for PC", you can download the program to your computer and start collecting free books until your kindle comes.

One place to check for free kindle books is as Inkmesh. Here.

You can sort just on Kindle books, from the list to the left. Some books aren't free for long, so you don't want to miss any!

Also, check various ebook sites for freebies. Many will offer them in the Kindle format as well.

Don't have a Kindle myself, I have a Sony, but pretty sure it's got a USB port.

Here's a site with specs...

Here.

Its says USB 2.0

Yes, you will get a USB cable. You can use this to transfer books that you purchase from other sites, such as smash words, or to copy over PDF files, etc.

Read the Manuel!!!

Poor Manuel!  He must be so cramped, being stuck inside a Kindle!  Maybe he can pass the time until he's rescued by reading the manual!

The manual is very long... I will admit that I mostly skimmed.  But it's easy to get back to, so you can quickly reference it if you need to.  I found, however, that the Kindle is pretty easy to figure out.  I had a couple of issues the first week as far as getting things onto it when I first got it hooked up to wifi.  I don't have wireless, so I had done it all on the computer, and couldn't get the games to transfer that way.  I went into Panera one day to use the wireless in hopes of transferring Scrabble... and it didn't happen!  I finally realized that I needed to restart the Kindle.  Maybe if I had read the manual, I would've known to do that, but I (a technophobe) was able to figure it out.

And a word of warning... I have had my Kindle for about three weeks.  I knew I'd like it.  I didn't know it would be so darn addicting!  I thought I would miss the feel of a book... nope, not at all.  My Kindle fits in my purse and is able to go everywhere with me, which probably ISN'T a good idea.  I can't put it down.  That's probably because I loaded some really good books onto it, but even when slogging through a not-so-good book, I kept wanting to pick it up and read more.
