I see on the home page of the site that you can get some books from amazon.com using a credit, but I see a book I want, it isn't listed for offer, but it only gives me an option to wish it or buy it from amazon, go to amazon and it says nothing about credits. What am I doing wrong? Or is it only some books are available?

Are you sure you aren't looking at information about buying from the PBS Market? They have offers where you can buy brand new books that they get at a discount price. You can pay the whole amount or pay a lesser amount + a credit. The "Buy from Amazon" thing is totally different, and using that button just means that PBS gets a small kickback for using Amazon from the link on this site. Perhaps they ran out of that book in the PBS market, which is why now they only offer the Amazon option. But you can't buy books from Amazon with a credit from here.

The books on the homepage are from the PBS Market, not Amazon.  If you purchase them, with or without a credit, they are shipped directly from PBS headquarters.  The link to purchase a book from Amazon does not involve credits, though PBS gets a small percentage of your purchase from Amazon, which helps support the site.
