A good suspenseful romance. Suspense revolves around the lost fortune of the Russian Czar's world renown Amber Room, which was new to me and rather intrigueing.

This was my wife's book and I did not read it. But she said it was a very interesting story and she enjoyed it.

Enjoyed this very much. Author writes well, with good sense of dialogue; the story is perhaps a little drawn out, with bad guys popping up a few too many times. But a very decent read, got through it in a hurry.

When Honor Donovan finds out her brother, Kyle, is missing, she heads to the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest to find him. Kyle is rumored to have stolen a fortune in amber, including a panel from Russia's Amber Room which was stolen by the Nazis in WWII. The police are hounding her and Honor knows Kyle wouldn't steal the gems. Determined to find him, Honor hires a "fishing guide" to help her search the islands. But Jake Mallory is not really a fishing guide. He has been doing business with Kyle Donovan and suspects that Kyle set him up to take the fall for stealing the amber.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the relationship between Honor and Jake. There was real conflict between them and the fact her brother was accused of stealing the amber and making it look like Kyle was behind it. My problem with the story was there being so many people including the Feds, Russian operatives, Coast Guard, and mafia also looking for the gems. I was confused as to who was on what side of the conflict. There was also loads of information on fishing, the care and handling of boats, and how to tell if Amber is real or fake. Just too much detail for me that slowed down the story. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Continuation of the Donovan series. Great story, including intrigue, romance, exotic locale, romance! The reader learns about a different aspect of the gem trade in each of this series of books. An added bonus that kept my attention. One of theose books you don;t want to end.

First book in the Donovan International series. Elizabeth Lowell masterfully transports readers into a world of rare jewels and perilous intrigue. You will want to have all 4 books in this series and read them over and over.

****The story of a legendary treasure that inspires consuming passion and treacherous betrayal - the fabulous lost fortune that was once the Russian Czar's exquisit, world-renowned Amber Room. Research centers around glass art.

When her brother Kyle vanishes, along with a fortune in stolen amber, Honor Donovan settles into his cottage in the San Juan Islands of the Pacific Northwest and hires fishing guide Jake Mallory to help her search the surrounding islands for him. What Jake doesn't want Honor to know is that, until recently, he brokered amber deals for Donovan International, run by Honor's brothers, and is now suspected by them of having stolen the missing amber, along with a priceless Russian antiquity called the Amber Room. As Honor and Jake search the high seas for Kyle, dodging wily international operatives and mysterious intruders, their smoldering distrust eventually gives way to explosive passion. But there's no guarantee that they'll survive, or that they'll forgive their mutual deceptions and create a future together. Fascinating details about amber, and less fascinating descriptions of boating, lend authenticity to this contemporary romance marked by its edgy repartee, highly charged love scenes, and gorgeous geography.
