For me, there are two types of books: The ones I keep on my night table to read a few chapters each night, and the ones that I carry all over the house to read whenever I have a few minutes to spare. This book surely falls into the latter category. It grips in the first few pages and never lets go. The high level of suspense is maintained throughout the story. The characters are riveting, and one of the supporting characters, Clayton, is hilarious. His character evolves throughout the story, and some of his dialogue at the end of the book had me laughing out loud a few times. Highly recommend. Feel free to email with any questions. ~LeAnn
This was a fascinating story with a total surprise ending. On an island off the coast of Virginia is a psychiatric facility for former intelligence officers who know too much. The problem is one of them is not crazy. He finds a way to escape and then discovers all mention of him has been erased. He is a man who doesn't exist and even his face is unfamiliar to him. As he struggles to determine what happened to him over a two year span of time and to recover memories of who is he he must evade people bent on killing him. As he travels from Canada to France and ultimately to Switzerland he discovers a vicious plat to assassinate a world leader which will certainly result in a world war. Can he stop the assassination in time and find out what happened to him and why? Its a real thrill ride that kept me reading late into the night.
This is an interesting story but is dragged out far beyond what's necessary to convey it. I found myself skipping a lot toward the end as much of it was superfluous to the story. The outcome was not a surprise.
Hal Amber, a former CIA operative, has been kept at a secure isolated location for the insane. Deeply medicated, he has been "eraced", with the help of a nurse he escape to find his past. This is another internation thriller from the master of the genre. I really liked the ending.
Intriguing, exciting and fast-paced --- true to the Ludlum style. Lots of twists and unexpected revelations. Had to sit in my garage and listen to the last of it on my car's CD player --- couldn't wait for the ending!
Gripping story of the fight by one man to keep the government's intelligency agency from making him disappear.
Thriller involving a man who escapes from a secret CIA psychiatric hospital. Loved this fast paced book.
Some suspense. I might read it again.
Another decent quick read. Thriller contains medical experiments, para-military organizations, conspiracies, double-crosses, action, etc. The story moves right along, with some of the major points being fairly predictable, and certain "twists" not making much sense. Still more fun than good.
This was an engrossing, thrilling read.
THis novels stays close to Ludlum's 'Bourne' style. The readers interests is kept through out the book. A very good read if you like this genre and Ludlum.

I'm not a Ludlum fan, but my friend loved it.
Fast read, very interesting story line. I really enjoyed it.
"Reading a Ludlum novel is like watching a James Bons film." Very intricate plot, very exciting.
This is one of Ludlum's best books, you never know untill the last few pages who or what is about to happen, tryly a great read. Action, adventure conspiracy upon conspiracy.
I would have rated this a 5 star except it is a little rambling but half-way through starts really going and ends with a big surprise!
Ghost-written, from the Estate of Robert Ludlum.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I picked up at the airport on my way out of town and never put it down....from my flight to my destination, while on vacation and even on the way back on my flight home. Fast-paced thriller with engaging spy/hero and lots of action. Highly recommend.
this is typical Ludlum. Great story, with a surprise twist at the end. 4 star
Another great novel by the great Robert Ludlum. If you like him or if you like the novels he write, then this is a book to get. Enjoy
A poignant story of a WWII war hero. A story kept from his family until his son follows up after the death of his father./
New book, copyright 2005. A LARGE PRINT BOOK. On Parrish Island, Off Virginia, is a little-known never visited psychiatric facility. Hal Ambler is one of the few kept in isolation and closely watched. But he is not crazy and escapes. He has to uncover who he was and what about him makes him so dangerous that someone is out to kill him. Book with dust cover, like new. Ehjoy!!
So pretty good twists and turns in the typical Robert Ludlum style. Good character development and a surprise ending that I didn't see coming. Sometimes Ludlum seems to ramble a little and I had to skim those parts, but all-in-all, a good, if somewhat long, read.
This novel is a good ole fashioned conspiracy/ action/ international thriller. Ambler Warning, is about a government (US) operative who has special abilities & can tell when you are lying to him. His services are so valuable that a nurse at the psychiatric ward, helps him escape. Hal (Ambler) begins to question who he is and why he got out. This audio cd kept my interest and the narration was excellent. Robert Ludlum (author) is no longer with us. He also wrote The Bourne Identity. So if you like that kind of action this is the book for you.
Another thoroughly entertaining book by Robert Ludlum. Very exciting and well done.
A good story with a few nice surprises, but the author sometimes got booged down in details that slowed the pace of the story.
A good action/adventure spy tale. The ending caught me totally off guard.
Magnificent thriller full of unexpected twists. Robert Ludlum outdid himself with this one.
Well written, keeps you guessing, excellent surprise at the end. Interesting mix of characters.
Another great Ludlum book. I loved it.
Started slow with too much data. Became more and more interesting with a build up for a great finale There were many twists but too many characters for my short attention span. I grew to enjoy it.
copyright 2005. Published after his death but this takes nothing away from the typical Ludlum thriller. Better than some I've read.
Another great Ludlum story
On Parrish Island, off the coast of Virginia, lies a psychiatric facility. Far from prying eyes, it is a government-run hospital for former intelligence employees in possession of highly classified information. Former Consular Operations agent Hal Ambler is one of these patients whose mind is filled with secrets of state-and is considered such a security risk that he is kept heavily medicated and closely watched. But there's one critical difference between Ambler and the other patients: Ambler isn't crazy. Now he must find a way to escape the facility, find out who put him there, and uncover the truth of who he was...and why someone is willing to risk everything to see him dead.
Hal Ambler escapes from Parrish Island Psychiatric facility where he has been kept drugged and sedated for years. unfortunately he isnt crazy and people are after him.
FRIENDS DID NOY RECOGNIZED HIM, AND THERE IS NO OFFICIAL RECORDS OF ANY PERSON CALLED HAL AMBER.
Never read it, just recycling my wife's collection. Book is in good condition.
