This book is an example of a history of the time, and reminds me a great deal of the American Girl stories and accounts of families, written for that age group and inclusive to the experiences of boys and girls in Today (1939), Civil War, Colonial and Pioneer time frame, with dates given of 1860, 1776, and 1690.
The family portrayed over many generations displays a lot of thoughtful behavior, including children participating in the Underground Railroad standing up to adults.« less
