ollins (Lady Boss, etc.) returns to Hollywood (and New York and Kansas) in this perfunctory 20-year romantic saga between a small-town princess and a poor, rakish Italian-American stud- -nothing new from this author, but then who among her readers cares? Nick Angelo (think black hair, blue eyes, tight pants, dimpled chin) may have grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, but he's always been lucky when it comes to females--as demure Lauren Roberts discovers when Nick moves to Bosewell, Kansas, in the wake of his mother's death. Entering high school with plans to keep his head down and land the first girl willing to keep him warm, Nick is instead inexplicably smitten by prim, comely Lauren--who's unhappily engaged to the richest boy in town. A hot romance soon flares up, causing Lauren's outraged parents to lock her in her room and her would-be in-laws to see that Nick is expelled from school. Vowing to get rich quick and come back for Lauren, Nick takes off for Chicago, but a Kansas tornado, an unwanted pregnancy, and hard times in Chicago separate the couple until each is convinced that the other has given up on the affair. A decade later the two meet again in New York just as Nick Angelo (now Nick Angel, a film actor) is on the brink of success and Lauren, a New York businesswoman, is about to become an extremely well-paid model. This time Lauren's engagement to a wealthy older man and Nick's entanglement in a blackmail scheme stand in the star-crossed lovers' way, and it is many more years, romantic traumas, multimillion-dollar business deals, Beverly Hills parties, and Manhattan penthouse dinners before busy, thirtysomething Nick and Lauren find the time to fall into each other's arms once and for all.
One of my favorite Jackie Collins books.
This book is the typical love story, at first Nick and Lauren meet, then the problems begin and keep going on until God says: from now on everything will be fine, and everything is fine. Nevertheless, the book will keep you reading page after page and willing to know what will happen in the next page.
In this book you will learn two or three things, for example what can a rich man do with your life if you are not strong enough to get out of his life (Lauren with her husband).
Almost everything written in this love story could be real, is a very good book.
This is a good book about pushing for what you want and succeeding. The ending was really sweet.
This is "a 5 star beach read" - or "5 star by the pool read".
Typical Jackie Collins love story set amongst super stars. This ohe is about a superstar by the name of Nick Angel form the mid west who rises out of poverty to become rich and famous in NYC. He meets a naive and beautiful young girl who is learning fast about men, money and life.
I like this book because it is fast moving and because it is something to get your teeth into - 568 pages - a great vacation read.
Nick angel, dark, brooding, hypnotic, the cult superstar of the silver screen with the five o clock shadow and memerizing emerald eyes, Lauren Roberts, the face of the decade, who made modeling istory with her air of mystery, elegance and reserve. They wer tow Kansas kids with memories to burn and ambition to slake, far afield from the reckless New years eve that shattered their lives, driving them first to desperation, then to fame and fortune, worlds apart, but still yearning for each other. Nick burned out and used up, drowning in vodka, bimbos and cheap thrills. Anything to forget Lauren, whos rocketing to fame while her heart is starving...But they meet by chance at a lavish Hollywood party, and explosive passions ignite. Two lost lovers, unwitting targets of Nickes vengeful Hollywood wife, who is primed and lethal secrets and ready to destroy them both.
