In early 2000 Denby, then and now a respected film critic for The New Yorker, wanted to raise the money to buy out his departing wife’s share of their roomy Manhattan apartment. With her permission, he began to invest in tech stocks. In the next couple of years, he lost about a million dollars as the dot-com industry collapsed. A sad story, objectively told. He's almost too honest and forthright.
