Beautifully written.... story of contrasts; of old vs new, North vs South, and belief vs. non-belief. Through the eyes of a Downs child, the main character, Ann, learned about herself, her family, her ability to love, and most especially her faith. Truly loved the book!!!!

Thought the story line became a bit dragged out, while the characters were different, didn't really get into the depth of them. The characters in N.Y were evil, the
characters in Charleston were the good ones...
It could be a helpful book to read for yourself about what you think you want in life and what you really need to make you happy.
Don't think I would read another Katheryn Cushman book .. but then again, just might need to give her a second chance.
anyone else out there have any thought about her writing?
