A well written book for the junior readership. The author covers the many ways horses, rats, fleas and beavers influenced history and the progress of civilization. This is a different approach to history than usually covered in classrooms. As a result, it will hopefully lead "junior historians" to think more about why things happen.

I used to lecture at the college level on how insects influenced history and wrote an article on such for the Encyclopedia of Entomology. This book's chapter on rats, fleas and bubonic plague is somewhat simplified, but still right on.
