LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Cable network IFC is teaming with Lionsgate to adapt a series of popular vampire novels for a TV movie.

Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" books, at 16 books and counting, include elements familiar to fans of "True Blood" (vampires are part of regular society) and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (tough young female fights supernatural forces). The project will be adapted by Glen Morgan ("The X-Files," "Final Destination").

In the books, Blake is a vampire hunter with a lousy dating life who also works as a police consultant investigating supernatural crimes. She attempts to come to terms with her own abilities and navigate romantic and political relationships within the vampire community.

IFC is targeting the movie to its core audience of men 18-34 and plans to air it next year.

I think that just means the actresses are going to be naked most of the time...

And stacked.  Do you know how hard it is to run and stake someone with high heels and big breasts?

But Buffy was deliberately planned to empower young girls.  She did not start out being stacked to please young men.  (Unlike Lara Croft, who was designed that way.)

Ash,

You definitely win the "I love Buffy contest".

Do you remember Harmony? My favorite Buffy/Angel character of all time.

This discussion quickly went from Anita Blake to Buffy. lol  I guess that shows everyone's lack of faith in the Anita Blake move : )

Well if they stick to the first few books there won't be so much sex. LOL

I miss Buffy. Not only could she stake vampires in high heels and wearing the latest fashions but she could do it in white and never get a mark on her.

My favorite Buffy character other than the usual cast was Glory. God she was a b*tch. LOL

I liked Anita better in the early books when she always wore black Nikes, black jeans and a black polo shirt. I don't think we'll be seeing much of that if it's geared towards young men.

We're an exclusive club! :-p  Seriously, I am enjoying the Anita Blake books, but they are not my usual fare, and do not seem male-geared at all, so it seems odd that the target audience would be men.  Then again, I have little faith in the film industry not to royally screw up anything they touch, so I have pretty low expectations.

Well I suspect that if they just stick to what LKH wrote...oh wait we are talking about making a movie/series, sorry!!!! Anyway...Guilty pleasuers has the freak party...nuf women running around in next to nothing. But what are they going to do with all the male strippers????   Anita is stacked, petite, 24 and pretty...now if hollywood will just leave that alone!!!  And when you figure most of the early books have a great deal of police work with very macho cops...What else could you call Dolph?  Not to mention Edward!  I think there is still enough to keep the average male happy...keeping fingers crossed...without totally screwing up the story line.

Plenty of men read AB judging from who is posting on the fan board.  However most started grumbling when sex replaced plots, book 12 forward. That is where the women really took over.  but...they have 11 books to get through before they have to figure something out, like what happened to the plot? So we will see what happens.

The target audience was for the network, not necessarily the show itself. I think there is enough draw there for both men and women to enjoy it, though. There is a very diverse readership of her books.
