have you ever read a scene in a book that just ruined the whole book for you? I was reading a cute silhouette book the other day and then came to this scene----sorry if I ruin the ending for anyone

"Molly..." he had to pause to clear his throat.

"Molly .....in the time you been gone, I've had to come to grips with a few things. The brother you just met is one of them. the thuth about my father is another..........Molly, those are things that have rocked the foundation fo the man I thought I was.

But the biggest thing I learned, the most important thing , is the bald truth that I never should have pushed you into a corner the way I did. I was wrong to do that and, Molly if you'll give me another chance, I will never do such a thing to you again because, Molly, it's finally gotten clear to me that I can live without doing the right thing and marrying you easier than I can live without you. so if you cant see your way clear to take my ring and my name will I hope youll just stay with me, Molly.

Molly?.......

"Oh Tate you mean it, you love me?

Are you trying to tell me you didnt know"

Well Tate, you never said it

I should have? I should have said it?
Damn it Molly why didnt you just tell me so

Oh Tate, I didnt know how bad I wanted to hear it----not till you said it, besides it only really counts if you think it up youself, and tate?

yeah

well, Tate I love you too with all my heart and body and soul I have loved you forever.....

Forever?

since I was a little girl and I'm not kidding.....oh Tate there are no words and you never noticed me not until I ran for mayor

your running for mayor was the best damn thing tha ever happened to me

Oh Tate for me too and Tate?  I would be so honored and so happy if ....well if you would......

Molly?

Tate, pease marry me be my husband let me be your wife lets make a life toagether as a family with our babies Oh Tate will you do that .......

Molly.....Molly,Molly,Molly

I GET IT ALREADY!!!! THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE NAMED MOLLY AND TATE!!!!!

Molly, molly, molly...tate, tate, tate...after hearing the names a thousand times it kinda loses it's meaning and starts sounding strange. And Tate is just not a very good name to begin with.

what I find most annoying is when one (or both characters) insist that they don't love each other, almost to the last page.  This happened in to love a dark lord.

I run across annoying passages like that all the time.  Sometimes in otherwise good books, which is doubly annoying.  You're reading this decent book and realize your author is having some sort of brainfart or bad writing day, and it it's like scrubbing your teeth with Reynold's Wrap:P  Totally hate it...

Hehehe... this reminded me of a story a friend told about being in a hotel room next door to a couple named Steve and Amy. Guess why he REALLY, REALLY KNEW their names were Steve and Amy. ;-)

This is a bit different, but it totally ruined the book for me:

Heroine's father was running for 'governor'; hero was hired to be heroine's bodyguard due to campaign threats.  You go all the way through the book when finally they say:

"[Heroine's] father lost the election for governor of Chicago."

Governor of Chicago?!?  Cities have mayors, states have governors!  Just totally blew the book for me.  Maybe they said Governor of Chicago before the last chapter and I skimmed over.

It reminds me of that old radio gag about John and Marcia.  Just the names said over and over but it was the inflection.  You could tell when someone was worried, mad, upset, loving.

I really have a thing about verisimilitude in books.  I like all the names to stay the same and the physical descriptions to remain unchanged through the end of the book.  For some reason, I have also been reading a lot of books lately with brothers in them.  Just recently I was reading one that I was really enjoying about two brothers (we'll call them Jake and John) getting together to protect a woman they had both known since they were children and considered "part of the family"  There was a particular scene in which they start arguing because of course they are both fallin in love with the same woman.  The one brother (Jake) walks out in a huff.  The h then walks in and asks Jake what was wrong with his brother.  And of course "Jake"  andwers back as if that was really him. Now mind you the two brothers look nothing alike so it wasn't mistaken identity on the h part, but on the authors.  I had to put the book down for a few days.  I mean really, what kind of h doesn't know which brother she's talking to, at least outside the bedroom ;p

I also read one recently where the hero's name changed to another characters for about a paragraph. Bad editing. I can live with a few misplaced commas or spelling errors, even some historical inaccuracy, but mixing up characters names or appearances or backgrounds is just too much.

ETA: Or maybe it was the heroine that called the hero by the wrong name in one paragraph. Wish I could think of what book it is now.

i was reading one with a similar thing.  MJD's best friend is apparently named Jessica, as is Betsy's best friend in the Undead series.  this was a totally different series and the best friend had a different name - except where she ended up getting called Jessica in one paragraph.  urgh.

I read one by Hope Tarr not long ago, Vanquished, and it was loaded with annoying errors like that.  The heroine & her aunt repeatedly called the hero by the heroine's last name, "Mr. Rivers", and I mean it was scattered all through the book.  Not in every chapter, but it was so bad that I kept waiting for it, and she did this all the way up to the end.  About drove me nuts:P

I hate it when everyone's name begins with the same letter.....and I mean everyone.  Very weird choice for an author.  It's confusing in the first few pages until you get to know who's who and what's what.

Something that annoys me to no end is when they don't have sex until the very end of the book!  I want steam and lots of  it.

I don't mind the sex at the end of the book as long as there is some decent sexual tension throughout the story. And it has to be a really, really good story. Otherwise it bothers me too :P

LOL  I had to go to the drugstore today.  As I was in line and about to be waited on the check out clerk asked me my name.  i said It's Ani.  She then proceeded to say:

Thank you for shopping with us today, Ani.

I hope you found all you needed, Ani.

Will that be cash or charge, Ani?

We do hope you'll shop with us again, Ani.

Good thing I only go there about once every six months.  It drove me crazy!
