My brain isn't functioning!

I received a WL'd book.  Darn thing is water damaged in the upper right hand corner.  The wrapping is definately stained so the book was good when mailed.

It' about an inch on the cover and gets smaller as it goes through the pages, about 20 pages of one word of print are affected.  The water stain affects about 100 pages and there's a stain in the back.  Again not affecting the print.

The corner of the package was water damaged - is that considered USPS damage or weather damage?  Just by looking I know it's not sender damage.  I know I have to mark it RWP - would you ask for your credit back?

This is related - I have a RC for people to please wrap in some type of plastic or something to weather proof the books sent to me.  I have a rural mailbox and naturally when it rains the box door won't stay closed.  Well, this book wasn't weather-proofed.  If had the RC and got a book not wrapped in plastic (or something) would you mark it RWP?  Silly question because I've had others that weren't and to be honest never really gave it a thought that they weren't.  Opinions please.  Thanks!

If you have a RC for weather proofing and the book was not weather proofed, then it would be a RWAP for not meeting requestor conditions.

Normally I would mark it damaged by USPS and not ask for a credit back.

BUT since you do have an RC in place asking for plastic wrapping or some type of weather proofing and the sender agreed but then did not comply, I would mark it RWAP for not meeting conditions and ask for the credit back.

Yep, what Cheryl said.  Your RC not being met makes it a definite RWAP due to sender fault.

I just want to say in the senders defense: RCS no longer show once a book request has been accepted.  So it's possible if they had multiple book requests going out that they forgot that one had an RC asking for plastic wrap or they put plastic on the wrong book.  They really need to put a link there to the RCS or leave the RCS on the transaction when a book has them.  This would probably save a lot of complaints.

Mary is so right.  We need to have the RC's stay visible for us.

Please send in Feedback suggestion to the team to keep the RCs visible on a transaction.  I'm going to send in a Feedback on this right now.  The more members they hear from requesting this, the more likely it is a change they would consider implementing.

However, again, if someone has RCs, and we all know that they disappear after the book is accepted for mailing, then doesn't it become our responsibility to put a little sticky note on the book to remind ourselves that the person does have an RC and we've accepted that RC when we accepted the order for the book?  Pat

I'm going to send that comment that the RC should stay visable.

Stacey, I know the first time I saw an RC I didn't know it would disappear.  I knew I could meet the conditions but then wanted to double check them and didn't know how then.

Thanks everyone!

I sent in Feedback to the team and they plan on implementing sticky RCs!!!  Yippee.   Here was their response:

Thanks for writing in about this.  We agree with this, and we do have this on our To Do list. We hope to get to it soon.

Have a great day,

Regarding: Keeping RCs visible during the transaction suggestion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd like to suggest that Requestor Conditions remain visible throughout the transaction, so that members can refer to them again before they mail out a book, to make sure they are complying with them as they prepare to send out their package.
