I just went to a book's listing page (a book en route to me) and clicked on the link to the author's name ... Wow, pictures of the available titles!

Really cool!

Way to go PBS!

I'm not seeing the advantage.

We could already tell what was in the system by the red and green fonts. So don't see having the covers listed as anything outstanding, or even needed, on that page.

In fact, I'd sacrifice the covers so that we wouldn't need to have the link at the bottom to see more titles. And I'm hoping they've fixed the problem of some titles not even showing up under the author at all, when they're clearly linked to the author's page.

Well, you're being practical.  PBS is being flashy.  I usually prefer practical, myself. But this is fun to look at. ;D

This is apparently not a feature available for all authors. Maybe it's only for those that only have a few titles or somthing. I just looked up Christopher Stasheff and his are nothing more than the same old green & red links. No pics.

Unfortunately,  the problem of some titles not showing up on the author's page has not been fixed.  Here's what happens with one book that is posted on my bookshelf.  When I click on the author and go to the author's page, several other trade paperback versions of the book are listed (including one with a wish list), but my version is not on the author's  page.

When I added the wish-listed version to my wish list (just out of curiousity), I got the message that there are no other versions of the book to optimize -- even though the WL version is on the author's page, along with many other versions.

It's definitely not a perfect system yet.

Edited to add:  There are photos of the available books of this title on the author's page, one published in 2006 and one in 2007.

Ardith, the problem you are discussing has nothing to do with the pics. It is not a new problem at all. This is one of the things that the author project is hoping to correct someday. If there is any difference at all in the authors name on your edition from the other copies, your book will be listed as being a different author. For example, JRR Tolkien is not the same author as J. R. R. Tolkien, nor is he the same as J.R.R. Tolkien. Notice the spacing differences? Another: Mary Higgins Clark is not the same author as Mary Clark. And unfortunately, occasionally, even when the authors names are totally identical (maybe you went thru all their books and copy/pasted the exact same spelling & spacing of the author's name into all the books.) some of them STILL will not be associated with the others, it's just something in the listing that tells the database that JRR Tolkien is not the same author as the one the J. R. R. Tolkien that wrote the Hobbit, and the programmers haven't been able to figure out a way around it, except by using the author tool under MY ACCOUNT at the bottom of the page under MEMBER TOOLS.

I wish there was a way to input a specific author into the page, so that it would allow you to work on the author of your choice. Unfortunately, it goes alphabetically, and no one knows all the authors, and if it's not someone they know, then they are not interested in making htat author's books all get listed together, but there isn't anyway to do that. I know a lot more authors would get worked on if you could pick the author you wanted to work on, an author you know, so that you would know his/her books. The way it is, in my opinion, is almost worthless. but hey, they didn't ask me how to run it, did they :)

Hope that helps explain the author problems a little bit to you.

Sherry, thanks for the explanation. I realize that the problem I described has nothing to do with the photos -- I was responding to an earlier poster who was hoping "the problem of some titles not even showing up under the author at all, when they're clearly linked to the author's page" had been fixed. Since I had just finished trying to puzzle my way through an author's page, I know from recent experience that it has not been fixed. It's OK - I still love the site.

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off this new feature? I really find it distracting and would like to just see the green and red listings without the book images!
