I have a request that is "waiting for member", I realize it has only been one day and that not everyone is on their computer everyday , I also know that this will "wait" for 5 days before going to next member in line. I was just wondering if it should go on for another day or so would it be wrong to ask, here, in the discussion forums if someone has the book that I could order directly from them and then cancel the waiting request? I don't want to break any rules, but I am like a kid in a candy store and I want it NOW (insert tantrum here) LOL.

It's better to just let things go through the system. The first book I ever requested on here went through about 4 people before someone accepted my request. But I got the book :) Now I have more books than I know what to do with!

Patience and letting the system work is the best way to go, I've learned.

One of the toughest things for me, when I was a new member here, was getting used to the waiting. PBS is not like going to the bookstore. And then even after the order is accepted, the other member has some time before mailing the book, and then Media Mail takes some time, too. It is best to let the system work, soon you will have more books than you will know what to do with.

I would let it time out.  If the person is inactive then your timed out request helps to get their account closed.

Sometimes people purposely wait to accept a book request until it almost times out.  Either they need to wait for payday, they have something going on where they need a few extra mailing days, or they only mail once a week.  Some people don't have blue boxes near by or a mail man that will pick up packages from their mail box.  (my MIL can't even get mail delivered to her house-she has to have a PO box which they only go to a couple times a week) Others only have computer access at work.

That said-if it times out on one person and then is just sitting with another person-I might do what you suggested and ask if anyone here has the book. That's what I did when I had a book about to go to it's 3rd person.

Thank you all for the answers, suggestions, and other kindnesses! I guess I will have to control my inner child and regain patience. It was just that my other request was accepted so quickly....! Oh well, I can't wait until I have "too many" books. (If that is even really possible!)

Happy Reading!

Plus this is a holiday weekend so many may not be online as much.

it can be hard to be patient and wait, but you'll get the book!

I now have a book I requested that is on the third person request. I hate that!! And it's a book I've been dying to read. But I know I must be patient!!! It's soooo hard though.
