So I just had my 1st request since I added RCs & the sender declined stating "this book is not in premium condition".  It's a WL book & I'm not even 1st in line yet so now I'm sad I have to wait longer but at least now the book will go to the 1st in line I'm guessing...  Anyway, the point here is I'm wondering about other peoples thoughts on my RC's, any thoughts are appreciated :D  Also- I'd like to add something about damaged spines (ie ones that are cleaved or close to it) as that seems to be my newest issue with books I'm getting & need help wording it.

My RC's:

I am not willing to accept  books with marking of any sort (writing, scribbling, soil) on any text pages, nor will I accept books with water damage of any sort.

I think what you have is fine. Just know, and accept, that some people will turn down your requests. Some will because their book doesn't meet your conditions. Some will because they turn down all requests. You won't know who is who. A lot of people who turn you down will imply it's your fault somehow. Just accept that and be glad you're not getting marked or soiled books.

What you have is good.    This person probably just turns down all request that comes with RC's.   It is their option, just as RC's are also an option.    It's hard to know what to say when turning someone down but you have to say something.

Actually, isn't she just paraphrasing the PBS guidelines?  Therefore, anyone who turned down her RC (other than those who just turn down an RC because you have one) would have posted a book that didn't meet PBS guidelines and wasn't postable anyway.  Or am I missing something?  Pat

Possibility:

Please double check your books to make sure there is no writing or stains on any of the pages with text and that there is no water damage.  I don't mind names written on inside or title page, just not writing on the actual "story" pages.

Thank you Lita. Any suggestions on how to word that I don't want cleave or practically cleaved spines?  I know there is confusion between unpostable cleaved/broken spines & postable books with creased/worn spines.

Yes my RC's are basically restating PBS guidlines but lately every other book I get does not meet PBS guidlines &I'm rather sick of dealing with the RWAP's & my growing pile of unpostables (& shrinking credits) as a result.

ETA: BTW- I've already gotten my WL granted for the book that was denied, hopefully this one will go through :D

One more thing, could you check to make sure that when you flip through it, that it doesn't open to one particular page or have areas where you can see the binding in-between the pages?

Jessica--

I'm not claiming to have the best RCs in the universe, but you're welcome to borrow my wording; I've never had anyone decline based on them (I have smoke-related request that folks do, appropriately, decline).

"My only other request is that books meet PBS Book Condition Guidelines -- no stains or water damage, no highlighting or underlining, and the binding intact.  I'm not looking for brand new or perfect books, just ones I can repost when I'm finished."

Good luck!

Cheers,
Catt

Jessica - wow! Your kids grew fast! I reiterate, though, that if people didn't decline your RC's sometimes, they wouldn't be working. This is what you wanted.

lol!  the pic in my avatar was um... about 3yrs old, this new one is about 4mo ago, I just got around to getting these ones on the computer -I don't have very many pics of all 3 that can be shrunk down this much & still seen.  The old siggy pics were from last summer, so not as much of a difference as the other one ;)

I know I want my RC's to work, it's just that the 1st response I got was 'the book isn't perfect' -which is not what I was aiming for with my RC's.  Plus I know from reading other threads like this that many people think the wording like what I had is harsh/rude sounding, but I really couldn't think of a better way to word it without going off on a long tanget as I tend to do (which also people tend to turn down just because they dont want to read it).

The ones worded as a request with please always feel more comfortable to me.  Like the samples from Lita and Elizabeth.  This is a sharing site, so making the sender feel like a giver instead of in a defensive mode is one of the goals of a RC.  And it sounds like you are aware of that.  Good luck.

Hi Jessica

I think your RCs sound just fine! And about the spines, I think I would put just that, no spines that are obviously damaged :)  I think maybe senders just get nervous if the book isnt in perfect condition because some people are super picky.
