The lack of punishment for these thieving mail carriers is ridiculous. I thought tampering with mail was a federal offense?

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night kept Des Moines mailman Charles Wright from the swift completion of his appointed rounds.

It was pot and thievery that did it.

Wright, 57, was caught last year stealing gift cards from dozens of letters sent to residents along his Des Moines-area route. He used stolen cash to buy marijuana, which he then smoked instead of delivering the rest of the mail he was paid to carry."

Yes Becca, that's supposed to be the deterrent factor...that mail theft (or mail box destruction) is a federal offense and will be prosecuted.

Okay... I'll bite: This was in Federal Court. So, when is his trial on Federal marijuana possession charges...?

He should be fired and made to pay back some of the money he stole.  Of course, if you work for Enron or the Stock Market or are a Senator or Congressman, you might have to pay a little bit back or not.  Depends on who you are.
