I read these two books around the time I was in middle school and can't remember the titles.

The first one is told by the point of view of a dog, I can't remember what kind but it was an older dog and it's owners were  a man, a woman an their son. This man comes to stay with them, I can't remember if it was a relative or a friend but the dog knows that something is wrong with him, he's not human maybe a werewolf or something else that causes the dog to dislike him.   I really remember this one part in the book where the man is explaining that dogs are really smart and he proves it by recording the mans voice calling to the dog and repeats the man calling the dog who is confused because he keeps on coming but then realizes that  the man isn't really calling him and he feels embarrassed because they laugh. Also near the end he gets returned to the pound, I think he attacks the man and he  thinks about the angel of death that he saw when he was a puppy and thinks that it will come for him again, his owners come back for him. thats all I remember.

The other book is about this kid he find some sort of wild cat and raises it until it gets too big so he returns it to the wild. I don't remember what kind of wild cat it was. I remember that on the cover there were mountains and the cat was tan, so maybe a mountain lion or cougar or panther.

It might be Charlie the Lonesome Cougar, but I'm going to have to read it to make sure. Thanks

the second book isn't about a coyote, it's some sort of wild cat, maybe a cougar or mountain lion.
