I stand corrected. I had to chime in on the Scientology discussion!

I'm trying to stay out of CMT.  I don't think I'm succeeding, but I'm trying!

I try to keep the religious conversations in here.  I think they stay more civil in here.  Isn't that funny?  It's like you're entering a secret room or something, lol.

Actually not on this forum. The people here don't always seem to agree.  That's my opinion.  People are human and do have emotions regardless of religion.  I haven't seen any perfect person from any religion in my lifetime.  I've never seen anybody tell somebody to join the taliban on CMT. Of course, that's more political.

Nevermind, If it's taken out of context once it leaves room for that again!

I also think that when people come over here to have a discussion, they are comitted to having a more serious discussion, versus where people just pop into threads on the CMT forum, say something nasty, and don't come back.  I read and enjoy a variety of different things, but I don't visit every genre forum, just the ones that I am really interested in having conversations about.  It's so easy to skim a thread in CMT, see something you disagree with, and then just do a drive-by insult or make an inflammatory statement that you haven't thought out.  It's a free for all, and the majority of the people involved in it are not interested in hearing other people's beliefs or opinions.  They only want to share their own and call it a day.  Very seldom do any of those people seek out a thoughtful conversation on the topic, when they could come over here and easily do so.  They just aren't interested.  The whole thing is a one-way street for them.

Bill- CMT = the Club Members' Thoughts forum.

Julie, I see what you are saying.  Many times religious folk come off extremely harsh and judgemental, when in fact, I doubt very much that Christ would react in that manner.  In fact I suspect he would choose to respond with love rather than react with righteous indignation.

This is sort of what you address - but I think you are talking about something specifically (here at PBS) where as my comment is a general comment:

What I see time and time again, over the years,  is people who claim to be religious and then act in a very passive-aggressive manner.  My MIL is the prime example of this.  They don't have "permission" to be direct; it's as if they equate being direct with being rude...so they, instead, make innuendos and side-commentary in a passive-agressive way - without singling out their target, but instead, when confronted, claim innocence.  Funny, really - and so transparent.  I have so much more respect for people who a) either just keep their mouths shut or b) say what's on their mind and suffer the consequences.  Being nasty under a veil is still being nasty. (Not to say my MIL is a mean or nasty person - just the opposite!  I just wish she would be more direct.  It frustrates me to no end!)

There are a few people here at PBS who I think understand and model Christ very well - I have commented to them on a few occasions that I find the way they expresss themselves welcoming and refreshing - as seen from the viewpoint of a non-Christian.  I always look for their posts and value their input. :)  I'm not sure what separates the two - possibly security in one's own beliefs?  A true understanding of Christ and mirroring his love?  I  don't know.  I'm not Christian, so it's hard for me to say.  But I do see the difference. (Even in my own family!) :)

 Edited for multiple wicked typos!
