I am beginning to homeschool my 6 year old this year and I am looking at using the Sonlight program. I have an infant and I am looking for something that is structured and laid out well for me while I get the hang of homeschooling. Also any advice you have in general or websites to check out would be greatly appreciated!

I loved Sonlight for our first year homeschooling. There's so much curriculum out there (lots of good stuff) that you'll have to just pick and then be happy with your choice for the year. Sonlight uses lots of literature and we LOVE reading over here.

A good website that I check a lot is http://www.welltrainedmind.com/. Those ladies know what they're talking about!

What math will you be using? I'd also check out http://allinonehomeschool.com/  She has an entire FREE homeschool curriculum. You follow along with the computer and she guides you. Lots of homeschoolers use her curriculum, if not entirely, then as a supplement.

Could also check out: http://www.amblesideonline.org/curriculum.shtml Another FREE resource and gets great reviews.

Hope you have a library close by.....the key to every successful homeschooler :)

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Sonlight is a great curriculum.  If you love to read stories you will love it.  My son is a facts kind of guy and didn't care for it.

My best advice would be to make sure and find the local homeschoolers.  It goes smoother with support and activities you can join.

We've loved using the Sonlight program for the past 7 years! It has turned my two active boys into lovers of books, and my oldest is starting to really adore history because of Sonlight's fascinating approach. Makes my heart smile! When you can, visit Sonlight's forum/message boards. The members have a TON of helpful advice and ways to customize Sonlight for your children's particular needs, plus advice on math and language programs and electives.
