Here's the situation. For best results, I want to include book images on all my books.

The problem: My bookshelf is currently 484 books. And, since I have the only copy of about half of those, 277 of them don't have images.

I'm going to start putting in images as I have time, but I thought I'd see if anyone else wanted to pitch in. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

-- Tim

I've been working on finding images for all the imageless books in my transaction archive and was thinking of expanding that to books beyond my own.  I'll put you on my buddy list and start working from the back of your shelf (alphabetically) to the front so that we can avoid submitting the same covers for a while.

Sounds good. I've already started from the front.

I will help out. I will start at #200 on your shelf and see what I can find.

I have started at #300 -- not having much luck on finding suitable images though, anyone have any tips on some of these older ones?

Thanks!

Stephanie and Melissa, thanks for your help!

Oh, and I second the question about tips for finding the older covers. That's the majority of my books. I can scan them, but that takes so long. My scanner is tempermental. Where do you go to find images?

MY best suggestion would be useful only to Tim - scan them!  :-)

Yes, I agree with Annalovesbooks' suggestion -- that is what I had to do on my bookshelf. So many of these older books just don't have images floating around on any websites. Yes, it is a LONG tedious process, but as I said on another thread, I guess I am a little bit of a completist and I like filling in those empty boxes when I can.

I mainly use Amazon, and do a google search on the ISBN which provides many website results but few, if ever any, images. I finished 301-399, and was able to upload I believe 12 images. About 3-4 of those were images that the sizes were too small and may be rejected by the coordinators once they are viewed. I'll keep trying though!

Did what I could for 451-502 so far.  I accidentally uploaded an uncorrected image for one book (can't wait for the PM), uploaded a cover with the same title as a different book by a different author, and couldn't find covers for 4 others (they're tagged).

I guess that's the trouble of building a bookshelf where each book has very low numbers on them. That is, very few of the same books are in the system. They tend to be a bit harder to find.

Thanks to everyone for their help so far and for any future help. I will keep scanning. It will just take forever since I can't do more than a few at a time.

You know, I'm half tempted to have a deal on just the books without images.

Since I'm basically a very lazy person and I work very hard at being lazy, I did a search to see if I could find a site that hosts book images. I found one.

LibraryThing

Basically, you click on the search link, enter an ISBN and it will show you any covers that it has available. I did a quick look through and was about to find about half the my samples on there. I'm going to try and work up something where I don't have to type in each ISBN manually.

How do you add images to your books?  I have submitted cover images (and lots of other missing information) for all the books on my bookshelf that lack information, but none has ever been updated by whoever updates these things.  Is there a way to do it yourself?

Well, I just click the "Upload Book Covers" link. It's on the bottom of most pages, including this one. Scroll down and look just above the words "Patent Pending". That link leads you to a page where you can enter 5 ISBNs and the location of the book covers.

I put in some yesterday and they were approved today when I looked. So, it tends to be fairly quick.

Now, that's only for the book covers. I have no information on editing any other information. Maybe someone more knowledgable could answer that.

Depends on how you're going about it Sarah.  From what I understand the link on the actual book listing for images doesn't work.  At the bottom of the screen there's an Upload Book Covers button which you'll need to use.  If you're using that already, it might just take time.  I think the image uploads come up in sort of a random order for the image approvers.   Here's a link to the image specific post in a thread about book data, it should help tons: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=60867#p1213529

eta: I went back to work and have run across a bunch of "already pending" submissions so I'm going to wait to see what comes through before I start looking again.  Hope I helped a little.

Thanks!  Don't know why I wouldn't have looking in the site map area for editing book covers, ha ha ha!

I went from "I Remember Valentine" through "The Old School Dies" and did Google searches. Found a few, but there were still a lot missing.

Tim, to edit the book data (which I find easy to do at the same time as I am looking up the images), go to the book's detail page and click on the down arrow button that is next to the Tag Button and under the +Reminder button. It is a drop down menu that has "Edit Book Data" as the last item on the list.

I've seen the "Edit Book Data" links. But, I want to get the images first.

Down to 155. Plus, I know of a number of them that I have entered that haven't been approved as of yet, so the number will be lower.

Over 120 in just over 2 days. Not bad at all. Thanks to everyone who helped or is continuing to help.

Thanks for your help.

I've entered about a third of the ones that are left. I kept running into ones that had pictures waiting so I stopped to make a list. I should be able to get some more tomorrow. Hopefully, the coordinators will have time to approve them soon.

I can't wait to get all of them in there. I don't think I've ever seen a bookshelf as large as mine with all the images completed. Assuming that I get there, of course.

Tim just wanted to let you know that I just finished this mornings batch of approvals.

At this time there are not any pending images to approve.
