I've spent the weekend catching bits and pieces of games.  USA vs Canada, Puerto Rico vs Panama, and Dominican Republic vs. Panama.

I'm enjoying watching the competition.  I can't wait to see the Korean and Japanese teams play.

I watched the USA against Canada.  Good game.  I'm looking forward to watching some more.  I've also been able to watch a couple spring training games, but now that Pedroia, Youkalis, Bay and big Papi are in the world classic, they aren't so interesting, though it is good to see the pitchers.  Watching the USA team is almost like watching a Red Sox game, and the Dominican Republic game has some great players on their team as well.  Good stuff.

I'm shocked the Dominican Republic was handled so easily by the Netherlands--twice.  23 major leaguers and they couldn't get out of the first round.  Big upset.  I like it when the underdog wins.

I think there will be games this weekend.  I still haven't seen Cuba, Korea, or Japan play.  I like watching them because they have a style of play that differs from USA teams.

I felt so sorry for Mexico losing last night to Cuba.  I didn't really care who won, but Mexico lost badly the night before. I felt sorry for them.

I am really disappointed at what games they've chosen to air on ESPN/ESPN2.  Today is Japan/Korea and USA/Puerto Rico.  They are only on MLB.TV.  I can see them missing some of the games in the 1st round as many teams are eliminated, but this is the match up before the semi-finals.  Who made this dumb decision?  If they are trying to get more folks interested in this championship they're kind of blowing it.

If you find out who made these "dumb decisions" let me know.  I agree.  I think the semi-finals are on ESPN this weekend.  (I hope)

I will do that!  :)  Why cut coverage when the most exciting match ups are happening?

Tomorrow is Korea vs. Venezuela and Sunday is Japan vs. USA.

I'm enjoying what I see.  Baseball is played different by different countries.  I watched the Korea/Japan game last night.  Korea plays more of the current US style (focusing on power hitting and power pitching)  Japan seems to have a more traditional style.  They play alot of small ball and seem pretty good at it.

I'm looking forward to the Japan/USA game tomorrow night.  I don't know if it will be a good thing or bad thing to have Dice-K start for Japan.  Most of the AL players have seen him, but the NL players probably haven't.  He's been pitching very well during the WBC.  I definately will be routing for the USA, but Red Sox Nation has been basking in his relective glory.  :)
