I craft with vintage buttons. They have now become my addiction. Anyone else use vintage buttons and/or vintage beads and findings to create jewelry/art? |

My mother and grandmother both had button tins. We used to love to sort through them when we were kids. I'm not so much that way myself, I don't have a big tin or jar of buttons. But sometimes when I'm in a thrift store or the Salvation Army store, I'll see a shirt or dress that is downright ugly, or old-fashioned or all but worn-out, but it has fabulous buttons, and I'll buy it just for the buttons. I mean, some buttons are just works of art. So I feel like I'm rescuing them. When I get home, I remove and keep the buttons and throw away the actual garment. And sometimes I replace the plain boring buttons on a shirt or dress with these buttons. I don't have a big collection of these, just a few. Does this make me a button-a-holic?? |

Stephanie, I think that makes you a first class button appreciater, but not a button-aholic :)! I've heard other people tell me they've bought an item of clothing for the buttons. That makes a lot of sense when you consider the cost of buttons in Jo-anns versus a good deal on a shirt at Sally's ;-).

I actually make my own handmade glass buttons that I sell as well as use in my own jewelry designs. I specialize in sculptural designs. You can check out my button designs at beadsnsuch.home.insightbb.com/buttons.html.
