What ereader are you using? What type of PC do you have? What format ebooks are you trying to see?

I have a Samsung Note 8 and a Windows computer. I'd like to have access to ebooks and audio books, if possible.

That would be an Android machine, right?

I'm assuming that when you plug in your tablet you can see it like a hard drive.

But the tablets I've had don't do the other way unless you have an app to do that. For the Ipad I use "FileBrowser" and "IFunBox" for direct file transfer back and forth. For my android machines I use "File Manager" by Rhythm Software (found on Google Play). I then copy over by hand. IIRC both are paid apps.

I don't know any right off that automatically sync to your computer for android, but you'll want to be looking for a program that has an app for your tablet and one for Windows. I had a password manager like that and both apps had to be purchased separately.

So you'll need to look for a combo set up.

Overdrive's page says your Samsung tablet will work for both ebook and Audiobook with the Overdrive app. You need to click through to the Google Play store and get the app. Here's how.

Nancy, thanks.  I have downloaded Overdrive and can read and listen to books on my note.  However, when I download books to my computer, they don't show up on my note bookshelf.  However, what I have downloaded to my note shows up on my computer.  I'm very technology challenged so I'm not sure I'm even making sense here!  On my note overdrive, there was a place to download Overdrive one and I thought I could do the same on the computer, but can't seem to find overdrive one.  It's probably right in front of me, but I'm not eeing it.

You need to download ebooks to your Note, thru the app.  Far as I can tell you cant do what you are trying to do. Because that would confuse the system. You can always contact overdrive and ask them.

There is also a sync function in the actual Note Overdrive app, are you using that?

Overdrive will likely only download into one format. I have a traditional ereader and when I download the library book to my desktop (to then transfer to the ereader), it asks me if I want the Kindle version or the ePub version. I think you only get one format per checkout, so that may be why it will only go to your tablet and not also your PC.

Thanks so much.  Maybe if I download to the epub version on the computer, it will show up on the note?  I did send a rewuest to my library and will try getting in touch with Overdrive.

So let me ask the stupid question: if you already have the book downloaded to the tablet/ereader, why are you wanting to download it to the PC as well? Why not just read it off the reader?

Actually, I am more interested in audio books.  If I listen with my ereader, I have to wear earphones, which I find uncomfortable.  If I listen on the computer, I don't have to.  Also, I am a reader/listener of 7-9 books at a time.  I am always changing my mind.  I don't have a long attention span.blush

http://help.overdrive.com/overdrive-media-console

I have the overdrive media console downloaded to my computer.  I have  windows 8 machine, but I use the desktop icon so it is like my windows 7 version.  When I go to download from the library, I save, then select "open with" and choose the Win 7 overdrive instead of the Win 8 overdrive.

I can play the audiobooks directly from the overdrive media console.... but I use the transfer button to move it to my player... (sync will delete my other stuff... transfer just puts the new stuff on and doesn't touch the old stuff)

The link above has help documents about the software.

I also checked and the window 8 media consol is not allowing the WMA format audio books.  I know they don't show as avail on my apple machine too..  Another reason for me not to figure out the windows 8 thing.

Rhonda, thanks for the link. I'll try it, though I have Vista, not Windows 8.  Oh, we were typing at the same time.  So audio books can't transfer?

eta:  Just saw the transfer button!  I'm going to play with this and will get back to you.

Overdrive Dose Not Sync across devices!   BUT you can DL Audio to your computer & you can DL eBooks to your Tablet.  I do it with my Fire all the time.  Tho after I DL audiobooks I transfer them to a Sansa Clip

Overdrive reformatted and now 90% or so of their audiobooks are available to download to their app in MP3 format (love this). Go back and check and you will find many that were previously only available in WMA are now available in both.

Nancy, I do download to MP3 but they still aren't showing up on my note.  Katie did say they don't sync, so I may just have to continue the way I have, which isn't the end of the world.  lol

I don't sync to the player... I use the transfer in the overdrive media consol.

I did hear that overdrive was going to stop using the WMA files... but it has not changed on the libraries that I use.

There are still a lot of WMA books only :

WMA  3912          1101

MP3   2604            694

Total  3930           1102

I tried that Ronda. I downloaded on the computer and then hit transfer, and followed all the steps but the audio book didn't show up on my note.  I am going to go to my library Tuesday and find out if what I want is possible.

Eta: omg I just decided to look one more time and the audio book was there. Thank you so much.
