I've been trying to get an active thread started on Anita Blake I think since I started the series. Nobody else in poor little NC seems to have read the books, and everybody around me has gotten an earful to the point where they might as well have, though! lol

So if you have any thoughts please share!!! Pretty much would like to hear from some "positive" fans who love the books as much as I do! (And who ultimately agree that Jean-Claude is the most wonderful vampire to exist and that Richard needs to drop off the face of this earth!) ;)

Ms. Sarah, I'll join the club! :)  I've read most of them except the last 3 or 4....  I've really enjoyed them!!

I'm on Micah right now - almost finished, next comes Danse Macabre! I will begin my rant by saying that I really hate Richard, I've always hated Richard, and it's nothing personal, it's just that he was competition for Jean-Claude, and nobody gets in the way of what Jean-Claude wants! Lol. I have adored Jean-Claude from the beginning, and I've really disliked Anita for some of the things she's put him through.

i love Anita Blake!  though i try to consider the books after the ardeur almost a different series because the focus shifted so much.  there were hints it's going to shift back a bit, which would be great.

i'm going to have to disagree with you on the later bit though.  i *adored* Richard from the beginning.  Blue Moon remains the only book i've ever read twice in a row.  i finished it at night, and the next morning (weekend) i rolled over, picked it up, and started it again from the beginning.

however, it became too obvious a couple of books ago that they aren't meant to be together, and it kind of breaks my heart a little.

don't get me wrong - Jean-Claude is wonderful and he & Anita are great together, but i just wish Richard could have been in the mix too.

[ack, trying to discuss and remain spoiler free is tricky!]

My favorite book so far I think is The Lunatic Cafe. Probably because it was the first Anita Blake book I had ever read, I picked it up at a library sale, and I read it before discovering the others in the series. (and then I read it again when I got around to it after the first three). Of course, I have been a die-hard Jean-Claude fan from the beginning, so even in Lunatic Cafe where she was already dating Richard I was still rooting for the vampire!

I do that too, I consider the books 10 and up just a different part of the series, and I am eagerly waiting to see if they do make their shift back, because I'm getting just a little tired of the Micah/Nathaniel/Richard rut, although don't get me wrong, I love Nathaniel, he's so sweet! :)

I love the Anita Blake books! Danse Macabre was the last one I read. I have Harlequin on my WL but I'll probably end up buying it. I do have to say that Danse Macabre had very little plot and a lot of ardure. I thought the introduction of the Mermen was cool tho.

I love Jean Claude too and Richard is a wuss! Come on, whoever heard of an Alpha werewolf like him? LOL Now if you want a great Alpha werewolf you gotta read the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It's  not as graphic as the Anita Blake series but its very promising.

I need to get back into this series.  I had a period where I had found the first 9 or 10 on ebay for like $45.00 and read them back to back and then it got too much for me.   I liked Richard too but I don't think he is comfortable with what he is to be with Anita.  He's always afraid of what people are going to think because of the werewolf...  Nathaniel is just too damn sweet!

As for Jean-Claude, I still don't know what to think.  I'm torn between liking him and not.

Sarah, I started this series with Obsidian Butterfly before I realized that it was a series too!!

I like the Merry series too and need to play catch up with that too.

Just what I need more books to read! :)

I'm trying to get into the Merry series too, but still caught up in Anita Blake and haven't gotten to it yet!

(A little off topic, Heather K. is that Gerard Butler in your signature pic?)

Sarah, the Gentry series deals with the Faeries.  I like that particular area.  They each stand out as different series.

gentry series i think is more sexual then anita, its a really close call. but once you get past the first book it sucks you in like anita.

I have read all laurel hamilton's books and love both the anita blake series and the gentry series.  They both such you in after the first book.  I liked Richard at first been when it became clear that he wouldn't except himself or Anita he started to really drive me crazy.  He became a real jerk.  The worse he acts the more I like Jean Claude and of course I think Nathaniel is adorable.  Can't wait for the next book.

I've just gotten into this genre and I love it. So far I've read the first two Anita Blakes and I'm starting the first Gentry today. I tend to read a few in one series then jump to something different. That gives me time to collect the books I don't have yet.

Oh, yes, it is!  And new ones are starting up on Friday.  Take a peek at cbs.com and they should have summaries of the previous episodes.  Alex O'Loughlin is YUMMO as Mick St John!!  It sucks you in! :)
