Amazon.com: Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award: Books

I am thinking about it, although I had no idea about it until this morning....  i do have a book though that's finished enough to enter, but I'm a little scared! :)

Anyways, it would be interesting  if there were some of us on here who were entering, we could encourage each other!

Do it...Do it...Do it!!!  There's nothing to be afraid of, you're not going to be face to face with an interviewer.  Most of my book is hand-written so I guess I'm out.  Never heard of it either.  Do it...Do it...Do it.  You'll hate yourself later if you don't.

DO IT! Please! I was going to do it this year but was unable to get my manuscript done in time due to vacation and doing other writing related things.

Seriously it cant hurt to submit it, no one but the judges get to read it and I think some of those competitions give you comments on your work, IE ways to fix it.  Plus if you do win it is a good solid contract with a great place..

It doesn't sound too bad. Though, I'm a little leery about the fact that if you win, the contract is non-negotiable.

Oh, thanks for posting that. I'm not ready this year, but I printed off the info to remind me for next year.

It looks like a really, really great opportunity for the winner! I would definitely enter if I was ready. Next year...

Thanks for the info, Brenda!  There's no way I'll get a manuscript finished this time around, but I'll definitely make it a goal to have one ready next year!  (Although, yes, that non-negotiable contract thing makes me a little leary... still, it's with a major publishing house, and being sponsored by big names like Amazon and Publisher's Weekly certainly helps in the credability department!)

And I agree with everyone else... you should definitely enter!  What's the worst that could happen?  If you don't make it out of Round 1, so what?  At least you tried! ;)  And make sure you let us know how you do, and if you make it to the voting round so we can all vote for you!

A first time novelist being signed by a major imprint wouldn't be able to negotiate anyway.  And outside of this contest (except in pretty extraordinary circumstances) the advance would be much smaller then 25K.  So this looks kind of great to me.

Not necessarily true. I know 2 first time novelists that were signed to major houses and both negotiated contracts.

But I agree, it's not a bad contest.
