Hello....

Is anyone having this problem , where when you see a deal you like , make an order and also list the freebies (together) , then wait for the mail, and low and behold only the book ordered comes to you, without the freebie list,, then when you pm said sender, all you get are excuses,  and like...,

just wondering........I do know when I am doing any deals on my bookshelf , I do check often and I do get my books out,,,

I've never had that happen when receiving, but I usually only do deals with people here in the romance forum. I think in the book bazaar you should be selective... things I check are how long has the person been a member and such.

Marilyn, that is really weird. Did you point that out to her? Like send a link  "Here is the deal you posted and here's my response..." And if you sent a P.M., if she responded, you can reply to that and then she will have yet another copy.

On the other hand, you can just write that person's name down and never do a deal with her again. You might also privately P.M. the other people who responded in the post about the deal to see if they had trouble. If they all did, then you might want to mention it to the PBS people. I'm sure they'd frown on that...

Why anyone would offer a deal and then not follow through is beyond me! Why bother with the thing if you aren't going to do it? Weird.

One of two things probably happened: you accidentally ordered from the book page instead of the member's page (which would send the order to the first person in the FIFO list) or the person you ordered from didn't accept and it rolled over to the next person in the FIFO list. These are fairly common occurances; it's always a good idea to check in if you don't get a confirmation from someone you ordered a deal from.

Check your transaction record and it will show if there was a previous order for those books that got cancelled. I don't think there's any way of telling if you ordered form the book page.

What Willa describes is especially likely since you say this has happened twice in one week - did you go to a book's page and order from there, or did you order from the person's shelf directly, from the link in the post they made offering a deal?

I ordered from the person's shelf , on their link, which offered the deal...... both of them,,,,,if that helps.....I also sent them a pm with the request as well....

I always save my PMs about a deal transaction until I have all the books in hand.  I've never been burned but at least if I didn't get all the books asked for, I'd have the PMs to back me up in a situation like yours.

If you have the PMs and it's definitely the person that sent you the books minus the freebies, I'd send that in to the PBS team.  Not that they could do anything about it but I'd want them to have it on record.

So sorry Marilyn.  That really stinks-twice in one week!  LIke Sarah mentioned, when doing deals-I always keep the pm until I receive all the books that were discussed.  Then at least I have back up if something should happen.

How are you matching the address back to her?  In other words, the transaction on your account pages would match to her because she's the person who actually sent the book, but does the initial PM you sent with your order & freebie request (or the deals thread in the BB you ordered from) match the address on the PMs you're getting from her?  What Willa said means that you can go to the person running the specials shelf using the link in their deals thread, but if you click on the book you want to order, the order goes to whoever is first in the FIFO line.  If this is a repeat pattern for you with ordering deals, that could be a likely explanation for it.

I have not had this problem, even once.  I have PMed people a few times before closing deals and if there is not good, comfortable communication, these deals tend to fall apart and go away pretty naturally.

Letting the PBS Team know about any deals gone bad won't really do anything because per the Help Docs (emphasis is mine):

Book Bazaar

  • This is the place to advertise your bookshelf and "make a deal"
    • Members often post "deals" or "bargains" in the Book Bazaar, hoping to clean out their bookshelves and earn some credits.   We do not officially support such deals (there is no credit compensation for unsatisfactory or unfulfilled swaps).

So I recommend you make sure that you are ordering the books from the person you are making the deal with (as already mentioned, there's the possibility that the order went FIFO) or that you deal with active PBS users because they will be less likely to 'default' on the deal.

I've never had problems with deals but in general, I only deal with people from the L&R or the Games forums (basically, people I 'know'.)

I exclusively trade with the ladies on this forum.  That way I know what I'm getting into.
