I read this book when I was a teen and loved it.  It's about a boy who lives in a bad domestic situation with his mom, siblings and mom's live-in BF.  One night, said BF comes home drunk and Johnny, protecting his mom/siblings ends up pushing him down the stairs.  Assuming he's going to be wanted for murder he runs away from home.

He decides his best option is to go find his father, but all he knows is that he works somewhere up north.  (He might have a picturel I don't remember.)  Anyway, he sets off on this journey, and meets and touches lots of different people along the way.  I won't ruin the ending by telling any more.

Anyway, twas a great book, but I can't seem to find any information on it at all.  I'm almost positive that's the exact title, but I don't remember the author so I have nothing else to help me locate it.  Anyone else know of this book?

It's a British author, and the book is set in Britain.  I'd love any leads people can give me.

Thanks.

Caroline, try going to www.abebooks.com   They have a section called Booksleuth.   Just post in the forum what you posted here. I'll bet someone will have your answer faster than you'd think!  They are great over there and have found tons of books I only had a little info about!  Good luck!
